This basketball system was purchased as a Christmas present for my 11-year-old son. I purchased the "Lifetime" brand because over the past 10-years I have observed several other similar products in my neighborhood, and how well they have stood-up to the harsh Colorado winters and dry air. While it is true that assembling this system correctly is moderately difficult and time-consuming, the finished product has been well worth the time & effort. The Pros for this product are: Extremely well designed & sturdy Very easy to adjust rim height Shoots as similar as possible to a professional backboard and hoop, considering its size & mobility Quite easy to move from one location to another When properly counterweighted will withstand big storms and strong winds Affordable price with exceptional quality The Cons for this product are: In CO counterweighting with water is not an option, and the small holes make it nearly impossible to fill with sand; bigger holes would solve this problem Moderately difficult to assemble Requires two adults to finish assembly and stand up safely Overall, the Lifetime 51544 Basketball System is nearly as good as this product could possibly be while still being mobile. The backboard and rim are solid with just the right amount of spring, and even this 50-year-old dad enjoys dropping the rim to 8' and showing off some dunks. Similar items in my neighborhood have stood strong and continue to function well after enduring nearly 10-years of play and Colorado winters, and I have no reason to think ours will be any different. ... show more

I assembled this goal on my own without assistance. I felt the instructions were adequate. The instructions included qr codes that could be scanned which linked to a YouTube assembly instruction video. The goal seems solid and high quality. Making height adjustments is easy. I was concerned by other reviews saying the instructions were unclear and that the assembly time was long, but after doing it I disagree. ... show more

    • Great beginner hoop

I bought this to put in the driveway primarily for my 7 year old who is just getting into basketball. I've had it for a few months now and it has been great as he's logging at least 30 minutes to an hour a day on it. It's not the most sturdy hoop, but it's what I was expecting for the price and will be great until he gets old enough to start dunking on it (which should be at least a few years). One note - I put this thing together in a couple of hours, but it's not a really easy assembly for one person as a couple steps require getting holes lined up to insert the bolts and there's quite a bit of weight you have to awkwardly balance to do so. I ended up using some blocks to prop up different sections for some of the steps, but it did require some manhandling (and a couple frustrating moments) to get assembled. First, I would like to thank all the reviewers who mentioned the poor instructions and how the parts are not labeled accurately. Because of these feedbacks, I carefully reviewed the manual and parts before starting assembling which turned out to be a game changer. Normally I rip open all bags and start assembling as manuals are pretty thoughtful and self explanatory but this Lifetime basketball manual is really one of the worst I have ever seen. Amazed Lifetime could not put the correct part numbers in the manual and show better instructions. So after 45 minutes of laying out the parts and reading the manual thoroughly I began assembly. After 4.5 hours of slow and methodically putting it together, I was impressed on the very high quality. All pieces are solid and it is obvious no corners were cut. The backboard is so solid I was unable to drill the plastic bumpers on the corners. I filled the base with water, added some pool chlorine to prevent algae and put a 50 lb bag of sand on the base for additional stability. One piece was missing (to cap the base where you fill) so I emailed Lifetime for the part which I will assume will be sent shortly. Overall great product with amazingly poor instructions. Be prepared for a multi-hour setup (and have at least one if not two helpers). The instructions are pretty good, but the illustrations didn’t always provide enough context for what was being shown. That said, everything was very well labeled. I highly recommend having a socket wrench set (though the instructions only call for fixed wrenches) and vice grips to help tighten some of the more difficult lock washers. Once it’s assembled, though, this is a great hoop. It’s large, has good spring action, and is easily height adjustable by an adult or older teen. ... show more

I purchased this basketball goal for my kids, but mostly because my youngest daughter was starting her first year of basketball and I wanted to give her a means of practicing at home. The installation was a bit of a challenge, but my wife and I were able to assemble the whole thing within a few hours - the majority of which was in our garage. Take note that when installing, you will definitely need a significant amount of headspace - so you can start in the garage, but several steps will require you to be outside or a very high ceiling. Also - this sucker is heavy and can be extremely dangerous if you aren't careful when performing some of the installation steps before the anchor is filled with water (or in our case, base gel and water). Overall - this hoop has met our expectations and has proven to be a great addition for our family, and a fun outdoor activity for the kids and I to enjoy together. ... show more
