    • Good fast EV charger for Level 2, but hate the fact that RFID tap is required.

This is a great fast charger (Level 2, not DC Fast Charging) for most electric vehicles except Tesla. This can be used for Tesla but requires an adapter. The charger is great, it charges fast, but I hate the fact that you need to tap the RFID card to start the charging session. When installing this at home, it is almost pointless to need this to be required. There wasn't really a documented way to work around this, so I am dropping my review down to 3 stars. ... show more

Evayafox might not be a 'household brand' but they probably should be. I've tried out countless EV chargers and this might be the best value I've seen. It delivers all of the performance and features of significantly more expensive products and keeps the price down to a very reasonable figure. Obviously, it has all of the protective features you'd expect from a quality EV charger. That includes overheating protection, over voltage protection, under voltage protection, short circuit protection, etc. The charger's shell has a IP55 weatherproof rating and it is designed to stand up to extreme temperatures from -22F/-30C to +122F/50C. This should cover just about any climate or weather condition you might come up against. It also has a 25 foot extension cable which isn't always a given even with high end products. The charger has several different options for operation including a smartphone app, RFID and direct charging. The app is the best option IMO since it gives you all sorts of charging data, allows you to schedule charging and lets you monitor the charging process in real time. The indicator light on the charging station itself gives status and error updates but for granular control you can't beat the app. Since the charger needs to be hardwired that means you'll have to get a legit electrician to come do the work. I picked this up for my father, who's previous charger for his Chevy Bolt had started to have problems. So far, this one has been great. The mounting bracket is a bit on the flimsy side and the manual is the finest of Engrish mechanical translation - fortunately it doesn't require much in the line of instructions. The charger works well, but has the odd quirk that it requires you to tap one of the RFID cards included to the faceplate to make the charger start running. I have not been able to find a way to turn that functionality off. It might be possible, but see earlier point about the manual's translation. Not a huge deal, just an inconvenience. I don't believe I would purchase this one, given the alternatives available on the market for the same price point from better known companies with solid reputations, but it isn't a bad charger and has been doing a good job so far! ... show more

This is one serious charger. It seems as well-made as many OEM chargers. I am impressed with the heavy duty build of the charger as well as the technology. I will admit it took me a minute to figure out why it didn't start charging right away because I didn't read the operation portion of the manual thoroughly. It turns out the charger comes with prox cards that you simply wave in front of the base unit. Once I did that it started charging my Model Y right away! (Do note that you'll need a J1772 to Tesla adapter for charging Teslas.) This is a terrific charger and I highly recommend it! ... show more

    • Surprisingly good EV charger

I was leery about installing a no-name EV charger in my home, but the price was so good that I thought I would give it a try. For the first two weeks, I made sure I only charged when I was at home, and I used an IR thermometer to monitor for overheating. I was very diligent about keeping after it and did not find heat to be an issue at all. As far as the charging itself, it seems to charge our cars at the same rate as our name-brand charger. We still consider this to be a backup charger, but it performs about as well as something more expensive. Overall, I'm very happy with it.
