These curtains are beautiful! Amazing value for the money! The fabric is soft and thick and the quality is definitely far better than the price point. They immediately blocked out the little bit of sun that was coming in and they aren't even fully closed. I will update the review once the sun comes back out tomorrow and I test them out, but honestly I wasn't looking too much for black out just something that was a good fit, good quality and would help keep temperature in the living room. To reduce expenses and to help protect the environment, in early 2021 our household started taking a number of measures to cut our energy consumption. Those measures have proven successful: total 2021 electricity consumption in our single-family, detached home in the US SE was about 8,000 kWh (3,200 of which was for HVAC), compared to about 11,000 kWh annual average in previous years. These drapes are a beautiful color, fabric, and quality. However, I didn't realize they don't have a white backing. I prefer to have the white backing to ensure the maximum reflection of sunlight / heat in the warm months. That's not to say they don't help with keeping a room cool or warmer.
