One thing people should know is that if your just buying it to have a powerful laser to play with it doesn't focus the beam in a way that will stay culminated (did I kill that poor word). Thats to say it won't make a tight beam it will only focus a point within about a foot of the laser and then it widens so you'll need another lens to get a beam out of it. I had this sitting around for a few months and finally got around to hooking it up a few weeks ago. Initially it worked great, no issues with engraving at all, was very impressed with it. But after using it intermittently for about 2 weeks, the laser no longer fires. I can hear the fan running so the unit is getting power, but cannot get any output from the laser any longer UPDATE: LASERTREE contacted me shortly after this review and sent a new control board, which sadly did not solve the problem. However I notified them of this and they happily sent a new module, which does indeed work great again. Bumping the review back up for the excellent customer service ... show more

This little powerhouse gives you that extra kick needed, with a pwm module it is very tunable, has an awesomely tight focal point, and even at 100% power stays relatively cool and the forward air flow through the heatsink/body pushes smoke away quite easily, for less than $60 I doubt you're going to find better, at least in a DPSS laser module. I've wandered between 5mw up to 50000mw over 40 years of laser experience, and an important thing to know is that the laser, although I have not officially tested it, is kicking out the 4, 000mw it claims, and might even be a little closer to 5 or 6,000mw, it's power output from my experience tells me you're getting exactly what they advertise, and perhaps a bit more. I consider it an excellent purchase, but with one caveat, this needs to be run with a pwm module, if not, you can wire it directly to your power supply, (Whether that be a 12 volt plug in adapter or a regulated power supply) no harm will come to the laser from this type of hookup. This is perfect for the laser enthusiast who does not intend to engrave with it and wants to hook it up directly to a 12 volt DC power source, I suggest using one that is rated at 3 amps or better. One final thought, if you wish to connect it directly to a DC power supply you must also connect the pwm module lead, (yellow) to the positive, (red) lead to get it to function, just remember if you do this it runs at 100% power all the time, but won't hurt the module. To simplify, you will have to cut off the connector of your power supply, and one end of the three lead red-black-yellow connector cable and solder those two together cables together, so basically you have a black to black connection, a red to Red connection, with the yellow lead also connected to the red to red connection. Simply plug in the connector to the laser module, then plug in the adapter, I suggest using shrink tubing on all solder connections. Watch out though, at 100% power even if highly unfocused at 3 to 5 ft will cause painful burning on your skin within seconds. ... show more

At first I thought there was an issue with the laser because after making an adaptor cable it did not work. I w started to return when I gave it a try on a machine I have a 4o watt lasser on. It fired right up. The 40 watt laser came with a board to interface between my CNC machine's board and the laser. It works great ! Canceled my return grabbing a board. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Are they sure this thing is only a 4watt optical?!?! I was running at 50 percent power, and still charring wood; and, no, I'm not complaining!!! Haven't done any calibrations yet, but so far... I'm very impressed. 2 things to note: I had to reverse the positive and PWM terminals to get it to power, on my generic Vevor 3018. Also, the 35mm body will not fit in the motor clamp, on Vevor 3018; so I 3d printed my own adapter to mount it off to the side. ... show more

    • Only works at 100% power
I had such high hopes for this unit. It's really too bad that it doesn't work. I ordered this unit for my Ortur LaserMaster 2, which is listed as compatible with this unit. When I received it, I swapped out the module, fired up Lightburn and had it frame a job I wanted to run. It turned on the laser (I later discovered it was at 100%, even though Lightburn was configured for 0.25%), and at the end of framing did not turn off the laser, burning a hole in my material. I disconnected everything, checked my connections and tried again. Same result. It apparently uses the PWM line, but only to turn on at 100%. It then does not turn off the laser when the PWM line goes to 0%. So I returned that unit in exchange for another unit. The second unit does exactly the same thing. The only response it has to the PWM signal is to turn on the laser at 100% and leave it there. I guess others are okay with that, but that really doesn't work for me. I did put my original Ortur laser back in the unit and it works just fine. So it's pretty clear that this unit (2 units out of 2, to be exact) is NOT compatible with the Ortur Lasermaster 2. Tech support has not been able to tell me why this happens, so I'm not very confident they will be able to get this working. This unit does not actually use the PWM line, except to turn on. Once it was commanded to turn on at less that 1% power, it came on at 100% power, then when it was commanded to turn off it stayed on at 100% power and burned a hole through my material. Definitely was not tested before it was shipped. Contacted customer support but they are not responding. ... show more
