I immediately put it to the test and wound 26 skeins and hanks of yarn before quitting for the day. I didn't encounter a single glitch. This is definitely a quality item that makes it easy to keep your yarn organized and ready to use. It mounts to tables and shelves of (many) different thicknesses and remains stable no matter how quickly you wind the yarn. The media could not be loaded. This yarn winder is perfect for my needs. It is easy to set up and use. I specifically chose this winder because it said it could handle larger/thicker yarn. It easily caked the 300g of Bernat blanket with no issues. I did find that the hex nut to hold the 'L' arm does loosen over time due to the vibrations of the winder. While it is not a major issue it is annoying to have to stop to adjust and fix it so the yarn does not tangle. Other people have complained about noise, and yes it does make noise. A bit of a whirling clicky sound. But I didn't think it was too loud or that it took away from using the winder. ... show more

I never used one of these before so I didn't know what to expect. It works great once you set it up and get it going. It's sturdy and simple to use resisting knots and tangles fairly easy. It does take up a good bit of space but it's size allows for larger sized yarn rolls if needed. It isn't "pretty" but it's functional and worth the money spent. ... show more

I decided to get back into crocheting after many years. Seems I gave everything, including my winder, when I got rid of all my yarn. Found this one on Amazon and after reading a lot of reviews I ordered it. I'm very happy that I did. My husband gets a kick our of helping me so he put it all together and we started making lovely cakes of yarn. It is very easy to set up and just as easy to operate. He found a small block of wood to help snug it up at our kitchen table and avoid marking the table. Then we started making cakes. It is smooth operating this winder and the cakes came together tightly wound, just like I wanted them to be. Easy pull from center yarn cakes that are nice to work with. I would highly recommend this particular winder. It has a longer shaft that the yarn winds onto so you have more than enough room and no yarn comes off the end until you pull it off. I had tried several others before getting this and I wish I had not wasted my time with the others. This is sturdy and the size allows me to do a full skein of Red Heart yarn in one cake. First thing I do when I get home with new yarn is shoot into a large bag using a fishing line striper to look for knots and then I wind it up on this. Great product. ... show more

I absolutely love this yarn / cake maker! It is so sturdy! It is quality wellmade piece. It makes turning your yarn lump into a yarn cake so much fun and just so easy! The directions were so easy to follow! ** I do have one suggestion.
