After first use these secateurs immediately became my favorite. They fit very comfortably into the hand with a broad upper handle and with a small pressure applied releases the lock. Neat! They are indeed very sharp- and render a clean cut even on dry wood. The locking mechanism is smooth and easy and works every time without breaking fingernails to get it closed. The return spring is quite hefty and strong and makes cutting a real effortless treat. It is also firmly set so that it is unlikely to fly off. I cannot give count to the number of springs that have been lost over the years so I am especially happy that a spare is included. I do like the soft grip handles These are heavy tools, but not heavy duty. They are fine for light pruning up to 1/2 inch diameter branches. Thicker branches are better cut with a heavier blade with ratchet action. I go through a lot of pruners and this is an economical choice. The best way to keep the pruners lasting longer is to make sure to clean the sap off the pruner after use and oil the blade. Although it is rust resistant, it isn't when the tools are kept outside. The lock works o.k. I prefer a different kind of lock because I am left handed and the lock is easier to engage if you are right handed. ... show more

I've used this cutter for a single season with only one complaint. The locking mechanism on the tool I received is not very reliable. I'm too often not getting a solid lock on the first attempts. It's the only reason I give this tool a 4 instead of 5. I'm curious how durable the spring will be but grateful to see a spare included. As for cutting, comfort and quality, it's been reliable, strong, sharp and efficient. I'm in a constant battle from spring to fall with three types of wild vines invading my English ivy and the many ornamentals they attempt to claim. These cutters have also easily handled the mentioned ornamentals that include Crepe Myrtle, azaleas, rhododendrons, Rose of Sharon, common Box, Winged Euonymus, and Nandina. Even after all that cutting they are sharp enough that I feel no need for resharpening yet. To those complaining of rust, clean your tool after using it. I don't have a single speck of rust showing on this tool after many, many uses. In less than 5 minutes, a little dish soap applied with a sponge and a thorough drying after, this tool is still looking new. No oil has been needed yet. When I put it away for the winter, I'll apply a thin coat of furniture paste wax to protect it from humidity. ... show more

I needed more robust scissors for cutting product packaging. Decided to get these pruning shears. Began using them in kitchen. I now mostly use these shears to cut 16 to 24 oz semi frozen bacon packages in half for an easier cooking length of the strips. They work GREAT for this! Wish I had thought to do this years before. I tossed all the cheap plastic handled scissors allegedly made for kitchen use which did not work very well, and now this is all I use in kitchen when scissors are the best tool for a job. Very tight tolerances, and the non-corrosive stainless steel enables easier clean up for next use. These shears have a nice locking mechanism to carry or store safely between uses. Please buy these for your kitchen, shop, or office. You will not regret it. ****These scissors are VERY sharp, so use with care. Not recommended for use by young children!!**** ... show more
