Searching for copper mats for awhile and I was skeptical of these. I tested them with the lid on at 400 degrees fahrenheit over briquettes and they looked great and weren't effected in the least by the heat. Threw some burgers on em. Everything was a breeze and tasted so great. No sticking and the mats were plenty charred but afterwards the char just rinsed off with no scrubbing needed. Let's start out with I was skeptical about these things. Everyone has seen the infomercials and we all know how thing seem. Well I decided to get one to try it out but I researched it here on Amazon and decided on these. They are thicker than the competition and you pay for it. Well worth the money. I have a 6 burner Ducane Stainless. This was the first grill I tried it on. After heating up the grill with the mat on it, I put some chicken, ribs and hot dogs on it. To my surprise, not only did it cook them well, but it left grill marks. It truly cooked everything well. So yesterday, here in Northen NJ, the weather was not the best. We were having our closing ceremonies for softball and used a 6 burner event grill. Now it is an open grill (no lid) but has a wind screen. We were trying to cook hamburgers on it. We have used it once before and the burger take a while to cook and tend to fall through the grates. The person cooking was at it for about 3 hours frustrated. I went home and brought these to him. Dropped them on the grill and watched the magic happen. We didn't even let it warm up, just started cooking. Not only did it keep the burger from falling through, but he said it was taking half the time to cook them. My guess is because it disperses the heat evenly across the mat or so it seemed. I put some hot dogs on there as well and just made it super easy to cook. Just roll them to cook the other side. Everyone who walked by the grill was asking what those were and the cook was just saying how impressed he was by them. I told them they are like the ones you see on the infomercial, just thicker, better but cost a bit more. Then I told them they can be reused about 200 times. That blew them away. People were asking me what brand they were and I told them KONA. Look, if you're going to try one just to see what it can do, get a cheaper one. But you will regret not spending the extra few dollars fro this one. I have felt those and this one is definitely thicker which makes it easier to use like how a griddle would be. Yes, the grease still drops off into your bbq unlike a griddle, but not a big deal. It cleaned relatively easy from cleaning while on the bbq to bringing it to your sink and some soap and water cleans it off. There are grill marks left from where it was, but not like it burned in. I'll add pictures so you can see. Solid product. I bought this at full price. No discount, nothing free. This is my opinion of the product. Hope it helps.     • Great first experience, but...
First of all, I read a large majority of the negative reviews and after dismissing a lot of them as "failure to use common sense", I decided to buy a set. Cleaned them according to instructions, and put them side by side on my grates. First meal, sausages, pierogies and peppers. I heated my Weber up to about 400 degrees. The grill heated MUCH, MUCH slower than normal with the mats covering the majority of the surface area, so be prepared for that and adjust cooking times accordingly. After it registered 450 closed, I opened it up, threw everything on the two mats. A little bit of buttered oil for the pierogies, and left to cook. Everything moved on the mats beautifully, no sticking, no issues. The peppers were difficult to get seared, but the sausages were developing beautiful sear marks. The sear marks weren't nearly as deep or flavorful as on the grates themselves, in order to get the sausages the way everyone likes them, I had to finish them on the bare grates to get that heavy char. The pierogies were fantastic, normally pasta sticks to everything, but not these mats, and the effect was like a deep fried pierogie without deep frying. Now, the reason for the 4 and not 5 stars. Cleanup. The mats do NOT clean with a splash of running water, or even a heavy stream of scalding hot water. I had to wet them down, lay them on the counter and lightly buff the gunk off with a scotch brite pad, then wipe them down with paper towel, and no matter what I couldn't get the greasy feel off them. And oddly enough, both sides of each mat felt greasy. The grill was completely clean before using the mats. Some people may opt to not clean them for "built up flavor" but I don't use my grill enough to feel that won't cause some kind of food poisoning. Finally, the mats were inspected and the edges are a little tiny bit curled, you can see the grille imprint on the mats, don't know if this is permanent or not or how it will effect it's longevity. I'll probably update this review in a little while once I get more use on them, or if there is any catastrophic failure. ... show more

    • if you grill saucy items or fish get these!
saw them being used on a video for my grill, was very sceptical but they work so great especially for marinated items! just wipe right off, food still got beautiful char! no more scraping the sugary burnt on residue off my grates! and the food actually tasted better and retained it's moisture, because juices weren't running thru grates and being burnt off! can't wait to try fish on them! ... show more

    • Thick, easy to clean, effective
I've tried 2-3 other brands of grill mat, including what I believe are the most popular ones, sold at Home Depot. They tore easily and were very hard to clean. These Kona mats are legit - very thick, noticeably more so than the other brands - they are easier to clean and generally much better overall. I can switch them out or clean them quickly, scrubbing them hard without worrying about ripping them (again, like the other brands). ... show more

    • Great temp control
Grilling chicken, steak, burgers, fish, shrimp, elk, and deer has been amazing on these mats. Clean up is very easy. They worked great for the last 2 years but now the under side is cracking and falling apart. How do I get the 7 year warranty?
