Unrolled the mattress two days before putting frame together. It took us (the wife and I) about 2.5 hours to assemble the frame. Instructions included were sufficient plus we watched the video before our attempt. Once together we put the mattress on, it is very comfortable.     • Great piece of furniture.
I would also have a small mallet or soft face hammer. A couple of dado's were very tight, very small tap and things fit. I did had a problem with a couple brass screw inserts, required me to tap out the insert for it to work good. Nothing a good mechanical minded person couldn't overcome. Plan on taking your time it will be easier. I did all the work by myself except for setting the seat frame and back rest. All in all very happy with the unit and we are enjoying it. ... show more

    • Solid piece for guest bedroom
Things to know: - This piece was for a guest bedroom. We wanted a pull out couch without the pullout couch price tag. - It came in separate packages on 2 different days. - It is very heavy. - You’ll need 2 adults to put it together. If you have put together any furniture before, you know your level of skill and how much time it takes you to figure out the directions. Give yourself plenty of time, do not rush, and expect to put together, take apart a bunch of times before getting it right. Pay attention to detail, such as where the holes are, the shape and size of the pieces, what piece goes over/under the other, etc. Every written direction is important. I preferred the written directions. My husband preferred the video. The video was a great addition I hadn’t seen before. - The holes aligned except at the very end for the arm rests. I am not sure how confident I am in it holding a drink without slipping, which was the point of the Phoenix model. - I am happy we got a model with the drawers for storage. There was a small chip in the wood. We used a wood marker to fill it in. For a guest bedroom, it’s fine. - The full mattress is super heavy. It took 2 adults to place it just right. At first I regretted not getting the queen, but I can’t imagine putting an even heavier mattress up and down from couch to bed. I slept on it 1 night to try it out and it was surprisingly comfortable! I have no problem having a guest (or 2) sleep on it for a night. ... show more

We really like this piece of furniture. It is in the den so hardly ever gets used but very comfortable when it does. A bit tedious to assemble but directions were excellent.

    • beware amazon add not true about the drawers!!
add says it comes with drawers.i contacted kodiak sales they said it was an amazon add error , that it said it came with drawers .no help from amazon or kodiak sales.im without drawers and very displeased

This futon is great. It was easy to follow with numbered and color coded pieces. The only issue was one of the color codes were put on wrong end of slat seat piece and I had to flip it in order to fit. However, it was easy to assemble.
