  • Great tent so far.
Easy to put up with two people. Heavy duty poles, zippers and flooring. Lots of screened windows. Nice to stand up and move around. Definitely heavy. Not a good tent for primitive camping. Handled some strong winds with ease. Haven’t had in the rain just yet.

  • Great tent. Poles jamming isn’t a thing.
The tent is great. Waterproof. Roomy. Classic look. Seems indestructible after two uses. I want to respond to the review that says the poles jam and can’t be extended. It’s true that the poles sometimes jam after being stored. I actually appreciate this. It prevents the poles from extending as I’m taking them out of the bag. To unjam them you just give the bottom a little twist. I’ve never needed to use anything than my bare hands to do this. They instantly unjam. If you don’t think to twist the pole I can see how you might get frustrated. You can also lock the poles when you store them and prevent them from jamming at all. I don’t. I just do the twist. The whole thing is a non issue for me. Awesome tent. ... show more

  • Water Protector Tough!
This tent survived two blizzards at standing rock: 60 mph wind gusts and several feet of snow. Canvas walls were breatheable and did not collect condensation or frost inside. Even in single digit temps. Large and roomy. Rugged rubberized floor not just tarp material like some. Durable. Easy to set up and take down. Note tent is heavy, and packed in included man sized duffel is large. This tent is great for car camping but I would not want to have to carry it any great distance. Mni Wiconi! ... show more

  • Prefer Kodiak Flex Bow Tent
I've used friend's Kodiak Flex Bow tent twice previously with great experiences both winter camping and at Burning Man. Thought I would give the cabin tent a try and really did not like it so returned item. It was more difficult to set up and there was quite a bit of play in the canvas both in the roof and sides which worried me for rain accumulation up top and buffetting during high winds. To be clear, I actually did NOT camp in the tent but the set up and design were a non-starter for me. I ordered a 10x14 Flex Bow which set up easily and works perfectly. Thank you. ... show more

  • Real canvas tent
The media could not be loaded. To the review about the jammed poles there is no way u can jam the poles they have a Compression type wing nut you must have been exhausted. To review about Cheap zippers this is another Myth I camped Solid two weeks in Alabama national forest with this tent and I didn’t have the first Problem. It didn’t Rip or tear and the Zippers worked just fine. The zippers are very Large and durable the more you use them the better they work. At one point the ants found us and were Crawling all over the tent but never found there way in Least I say I was amazed. I Sprayed a Natural bug Repellent around the base of the tent not on the tent that did the trick. Very large windows you can see all the way around. It rained several times no water came in of course you need to zip the windows up 3/4 of the way during that time. More than Enough headroom tall on the inside and really fast to set up. Use a Breathable mat underneath and a painters canvas on the inside. Use a round Rubber type Cushion under your Cot legs. Set it up fist beforehand. This tent is Amazing! ... show more

  • Going from Nylon/fiberglass to canvas/steel
I have owned a number of nylon tents from different manufactures and when our Columbian cabin tent final need to be replaced, I went with the Kodiac 9x12 tent. So if you are contemplating making the switch here are some observations and things to consider. I bought the 9x12 cabin with the awning and then later ordered the awing enclosure. My first observation with the tent is why doesn't it have a name. I am really tired of telling people that I bought THE 9x12 cabin tent. With all the engineering that went into the product you couldn't give it a name? Well anyway this tent is a heavy duty tent and I mean heavy ... duty. Its a great car camping tent it is NOT for hiking. Its so heavy that it comes in two separate bags, one for the tent and the other just for the poles, all in all, I believe it weighs over 80 lbs. So after taking the tent out of the box and starting the construction process the first thing you will notice is the floor of the tent, it is heavy duty. It is thicker than the heaviest tarps I've come across and it's nothing like a Nylon tent floor. Once you roll out the tent and stake the corners, the only difficulty is getting the front vertical support poles through the rain guard sleeves. Once you put the tent together a couple of times it becomes pretty easy. Then you will adjust all of the poles to get a taught canvas wall and roof and then you have to put in the guy lines, not really an issue. So at this point if you stand back and take a look you will notice that there are differences from the nylon tents., First, thing is that the floor is not a bathtub designed floor. Are the walls waterproof and the bathtub design not needed, hopefully I will not have to find out. Also it is a little curious that the door does not have a window. Every nylon tent I've own has had one. As you go into the tent, you will notice the heavy duty zippers and then the strong oder of rubber coming from the floor. Luckily it dissipated pretty quickly. It has nice headroom and a roominess feel to it. So at this point I'd rate the tent a solid 5 start. Then there is the awning setup which is another 8 poles to put together. The main center pole from the tent must be lowered to accommodate you hight and ability to reach up to the necessary joints and fittings. This room structure is almost impossible to set up by yourself. It can be done but what a pain in the a$$ it is to do. You attach the enclosed to the tent by way of a very thick velcro and then velcro loops to the horizontal roof poles. Then you will pull the tent awning across the the entire room and attach the roof to the same horizontal poles with velcro loops. So if you run into rain, the water will run down the roof and then have to run over the lower roof horizontal poles. If the roof has any slack it will build up on the roof behind the pole and that could lead to some major problems. But Kodiac has added two loops on each side of the room on the outside to attach guy ropes. The only problem is that they don't supple the ropes. Really? Why not? That was my first beef with the product. Second is the window coverings; nice zippers and all but they are on the outside. So if it starts to rain or you would like a little privacy you have to go outside. Why? Why not have the windows the same as the windows that are inside the tent? Seems like a reasonable set up. Next is the little strings on the tent that match up with the little loops on the screen enclosure. Once you have velcro the screen room to the tent you will find a little loop and a little string that match up. I guess you supposed to tie an nice bow out of it to do what? And lastly, the screen room as a nice thick black edge at the bottom that is about 4 inches wide. Once you stake down the wall of the enclosure you put the black edging inside to help prevent bugs and such from entering the tent. This is especially effective if you put a tarp down as a floor. The only problem is that the door sections have it as well and it makes in extremely awkward opening the door, stepping in and avoiding the black edging and not tripping on it. So all in all, the idea of the extra room is excellent. The process of putting it together is a pain and there are some issues with the design. But will I buy it again? Yes I would and I hope that there is a better enclosure being designed ... show more
