  • Happy, haven't had any problems with it, BUT see recommendation at bottom
Admittedly, this stripper is really scary. I got it because I needed to strip 24-gauge threaded ribbon wire at even lengths which was a bear to do using my normal, manual strippers. The first time it stripped the wire I jumped in surprise and sent the sheathing flying across my desk. The strippers make a very loud snapping sound which convinced me that it had probably just sheered off half the threads; however I couldn't see any damage to the wires when I checked. After I was done crimping that end I tried the other and was able to keep the sheath in the stripper so I could double check it. Sure enough, despite how violent and loud these strippers seem, I have never had them break the threads in my wires, so I can say that the product works as advertised. HOWEVER: As I mentioned, I got this for crimping wires, which it definitely works for (I have it set for 1/4 inch/6 mm, but you could go slightly shorter), but let me tell you how much of an absolute BEAR it is to crimp several pins that are supposed to go into the same housing. It's an absolute nightmare (which is more of the crimper's fault, I know). So, the point being if you're getting this to do ribbon cable, just get the socket-type connectors instead (I believe they're called JTAG): they generally come in 2 row formats instead of single row, but frankly just snapping those onto ribbon cable is well worth the different form factor (though that obviously won't work for pre-installed single-row headers like on Arduinos). ... show more

  • Works fine with higher gauges wires and speaker wires
It works as advertised on higher gauge wires 16 and up. I was unable to strip a 14 gauge wire. So the seller needs to correct the advertised stripping from 10 to 24 gauge to 16 to 24. This tools is unable to cut through the plastic of a 14 gauge wire. but softer plastics on higher gauges are no problem and this tool works great. With that said, the seller is a great seller who stands by the product and will replace it free of charge. However, this tool needs to be advertised for what it is good for - gauges 16 and higher. Correct advertising will raise the rating to 5 stars. ... show more

  • Perfect Tool for Making PSU Cables
I bought this for making scratch built PC power supply cables. When making a complete set of PSU cables, you need to strip 100+ ends to the same exact length to prepare the ends for crimping terminals. I used 16 Awg PVC wire for this job. At first, a few of the copper conductors were being cut. This set has an adjustment for that. After a little fiddling with this adjustment, I was stripping all of the insulation without cutting any of the conductors. As far as the stripping length, the adjustment was a little hard to set at first, but, eventually, I was getting exactly the right length every strip. I would have preferred an easier to set adjustment. But, having the right length every time was more important to me than the ease of adjustment. For most stripping jobs, this is not terribly important, but for ATX crimp terminals, this is critical. Once set to right pressure and length, I was able to strip dozens of wires at both ends very quickly. This is the most important thing if you are making a full set of custom PSU cables. For the price, I was willing to put up with a bit of fiddling at the front end for endless quick work at the back end. My only complaint is that the interior of the strippers can get clogged with insulation after a long session. However, the clogged insulation can be quickly cleared by pushing a short bit of unstripped wire through the open jaws. If this is also your purpose, I also recommend these crimpers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073WR9JTY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... show more

  • Becoming a Fave
We bought some Irwin Self-Adjusting Wire Strippers not long ago and have really loved them. It became necessary to get another set with a smaller measurement guide. I didn't want to sacrifice that self-adjustment so these caught my eye after poking around. For the price, how could I go wrong? Half the price of the Irwins at least. This one has a more precise guide for repeatable stripping that we needed. It's also capable of stripping a couple of wires at a time pretty reliably which has sped up some of our assembly. It has done at least 500 strips at this point and hasn't had any issues. We like a nice simple, reliable design and these have met our needs and surprised us a bit. Less moving parts, simple but strong grip and strip motion, great product. It's mostly made of plastic. I don't know how durable it would be in a tool box, but that also has the added bonus of being lightweight and making repeated stripping a less fatiguing task. We have lovingly started referring to it as "The Tookie" in honor of its bird-like appearance. This is definitely recommended as a great addition to your tool set. ... show more

  • Makes life easier. Everyone needs these
My main use for these is 2-wire 22AWG (connecting LED strip lights to each other, and to a power supply) These make all DIY tasks SOOO much easier, and my fingers don't cramp up from all the wire-pinching from traditional strippers. The measuring tool within these strippers is easy to read, and allows you to strip the same length of wire EVERY time. PERFECT. After about 500 uses, I'm definitely looking to hold onto these for another 2-3 years, at the minimum. Note: To get the best use from these, you must hold the wire in place (at the outside of the grip teeth) in order for these to work. However, this is needed for all wire-strippers, so this is not an issue. Just need to hold the wire a little tighter than other strippers. ... show more

  • I figured it was a good time to try them
I purchased these a while back, and even after they arrived, I was skeptical of them. Tonight I needed some strippers for a projects, and these happened to be the most handy. I figured it was a good time to try them. The project this evening was stripping some 12 guage primary wire so I could crimp some connectors. Of the 12 wire ends I stripped, every one ended up perfect. Because of how well it worked, I decided to try a few other finer guages of wire. All worked perfectly. It works so well for the cost that I'm going to buy a couple of additional ones to keep handy. ... show more
