I debated on getting just the plug detector, but i figured I'd spend some money and get the kit with breaker detector & accessories (no pouch/bag). I've used this for checking a main panel swap and it paid for itself in finding a single outlet that was wired wrong and causing a network switch to not operate: after restoring power, there was no wired internet due to the network switch getting bad voltage. I can't even imagine having to find that problem with just my volt meter. 100% worth the electrician-skill-game enhancer. The breaker detector was easy enough to use and helps I.D. circuits where labels have faded or just don't exist. It got the correct breaker, but there was a 'maybe' with the neighboring breaker, YET it made figuring out which breaker was for the dishwasher for a replacement job easy. Before using this, it would require some investigating, tracing wires where applicable, deducing which voltage breakers (220/110), and even then we would have to take guesses sometimes and just start tripping breakers till we found the right one (or short the end of the wires together to force a trip, I know REAL safe...). Now, worst case, is you have 2 breakers that need tripped for the 1 circuit you're working on. I'm not sure how it would work if the circuit is wired wrong, i.e. if neutral and hot are reversed, etc, but the instructions say that the circuit must be wired right in the first place for the detector to work... Works for electricians of course, but as an HVAC/Plumber tech, I find it highly valuable. I think DIY'ers and homeowners could benefit for the "pricey" gear and kit from a know name brand. ... show more

    • Makes locating breakers effortless

Before purchasing this handy device, it would take two people or a lot of frustration to identify what breaker a particular switch or outlet was on. As with many older and maybe even some newer houses, the breaker panel never seems to be well labelled. Over the years I have replaced countless switches, dimmers, outlets and light fixtures requiring that the breaker be flipped off. To identify the correct breaker in the past, I would stick a non contact electrical current detector in the junction box, then start flipping breakers till the detector no longer senses current. With this new circuit breaker identifier, there is no guessing! Plug the outlet tester into an outlet and scan the breaker panel with the wand. When it starts beeping rapidly and turns red, you've found the breaker. I tested this on several circuits and it has correctly identified the breaker everytime. I will eventually work my way through the whole house and correctly label the panel, but in the meantime this device will save me a lot of time and headaches.
