    • Worthless for keeping the pee in the box

I have a 19-year old female cat with severe arthritis who has trouble getting into her old tall litterbox. With effort, she's able to get inside but leaves her rear hanging out, thus peeing on the floor (or rather in the boot tray I have under the box). I thought this new box would solve the problem because it's very large (so she'll be able to fit inside), and has a low entrance (3" high). I was pretty excited to try it out. It's pretty sturdy and well-made. I spent half an hour removing her old litter box and cleaning up and preparing the area for her new one. Within five minutes of me finishing, she climbed in (without any trouble!), went to the middle of the box, and shot a stream of pee over the short walls all over the floor. The problem with this box is the walls are only 5" high. Older cats with arthritis can't squat, so they tend to pee sideways, not down, and these walls aren't high enough to keep the pee in the box. Not only that, but with the low walls, my cat can now exit the litter box in any direction. This leads to scattered litter EVERYWHERE, rather than just at the litter box entrance. What someone needs to make is a large area box (24" x 24" is good - so cats can fit completely into the box without crowding), with a low entrance (3" is a good height), but with high walls (10+") everywhere else to keep the pee, the cat, and the litter in the box (hmm...maybe I've found an untapped market...don't tell anyone my idea!). This box was expensive and, at least for me, definitely not worth the high cost. Very disappointing. ... show more

Our 10lb bunny and his 4lb wifey use this together all the time. He had trouble getting in and out of regular litterboxes or under the bed storage boxes so this has been great for him. It's a nice size. We do have to clean it a bit more but that's just the way it goes. The product itself is great, but I do wish that it was a little more affordable considering it's a $40 plastic box for animals to poop in. I looked high and low for a cheaper alternative but while expensive, I am glad I got this. Overall, would definitely recommend it. ... show more

Used to be every morning meant cleaning up the mess around the litter box made by our 20 year old Bernie. So, I was very excited when I found this kitty litter box (got the large size) after reading about why older cats often don't use their boxes. (It seems that arthritis makes it hard for them to get in and out of the litter box, squatting in a problem and hitting the sides of the box with their legs can hurt.) First night, still a little bit of urine on the floor near the box - but not a lot. Next night - dry, dry, dry. Hurray!!!!!! This product works! And, it's well-made, the big size is big enough but not too big to make it hard to find a spot for, and the Seller is extremely responsive and customer oriented. (The green box I ordered wasn't immediately available, so the seller tried calling me. When she couldn't get through, she emailed. I selected a blue box instead, and it arrived 4 days before the date it was scheduled to arrive.) Our cat is 20 years old and recently she started peeing just outside of her litter box on the floor. We had one of the big hooded litter boxes and she used it for 15 years with no problem so I was a little concerned and frustrated when what I thought was the occasional mishap started to become an every day occurrence. We had just moved across the country, from Nevada to North Carolina, so I initially thought the "accidents" were behavioral and were just her acting out in response to the big change. A few months went by and she was still peeing outside of her litter box about 75% of the time. I mentioned this issue to our veterinarian when we took her to the vet for an upper respiratory infection. The vet suggested that the accidents were most likely related to our cat being older now and having mobility issues. The vet suggested that because of her increased arthritis and decreased mobility it was probably very difficult for her to consistently climb in and out of the box. So off to Amazon I went looking for a solution. The $40 price tag was a jaw dropper! I figured it was worth a try even if it decreased the urinating on the floor by just a little bit. Our cat has not had any accidents outside of the litter box since we switched to this litter box...not even one accident. So to me the expensive price tag was definitely worth it. ... show more

I needed to do something for my elderly cat. The mess outside the box was getting to be too much, and I hoped the lower height box would help. It has! Additionally, due to my cat's issues- I need to surround the area with a shower curtain covered by disposable wee-wee pads. Great litter box! My oldest cat kept standing in his regular litter box and squatting with his butt out. He'd then urinate all over my floor 🙄 I read a review about how this box is good for senior cats and those cats who are going to the bathroom outside the litter box so I gave it a try. It is the BEST litter box! My cat now walk right in to the box without any problem and does his business. My 2 younger cats are using it off and on as well. The only drawback is that the litter scatters all over when he's burying his mess. But, I'd rather have that issue than him urinating everywhere! I highly recommend this box.
