Upfront… I am submitting this (first) review **before** the bees move in (early Michigan spring) while fully anticipating updating once the season is over. Even acknowledging, it may take a second year before I know for sure if the bees are calling the Kingsyard Mason Bee House ‘home.’ Second, there is no written description or anything I can find online that describes what the top-hinged door space is for. I’m going with it for placing live, pupa-stage/cacoons where the transformed bee will emerge in the spring. (This is my plan, and I’m sticking to it ;-) I previously purchased a book about Mason Bees on Amazon, and one point seems most appropriate: the location from which bees emerge tends to be considered their home. So we’ll see. It is possible to obtain cacoons from local farmers or online. Several vendors seem to offer ethically sourced opportunities online that will ship at the appropriate time for your location. Spring is it! I see a multi-year story taking place. I hope this ‘jump starts’ the process. The six-pound sturdy construction feels like it will hold up well outdoors. Mounting slots are pre-drilled for fast setup. I'll likely mount it on landscape timber near my wildflower garden. The wooden nesting slots eliminate the need for paper tubes. The wood should also make it easier to clean and harvest cocoons compared to tubes. I'm scouting the perfect placement with morning sun but afternoon shade, avoiding heavy winds and rain. Angled slightly downward, south or southeast facing, 3-5 feet up. The pre-installed hanging slot and bee-friendly 5/16" hole sizing show a thoughtful design. I look forward to seeing if the bees take up residence in their new home. It seems a charming addition to welcome these helpful pollinators to the garden. Get the children involved! I will be back at some point with an update to this review, whatever the outcome. ... show more

I have several bird feeders from Kingsyard that are very well made using durable recycled plastic. This bee house follows along with its plastic frame, and includes individual drilled wood pieces that will accommodate various bees that make nests in holes of this type. That includes leafcutter bees, which I have in my yard, so I'm hopeful they'll use the box. The individual wood blocks are easily removed so the holes can be brushed/cleaned between seasons. Easy to install; I put mine on an east-facing fence as suggested in the user manual, which was well-written. I've showed the bee house to a few people and they love its look. I hope the bees do too! ... show more

This small Beehive is incredibly well made and extremely cute; it mounts effortlessly to trees, fence posts, and other convenient locations with ease. The recycled plastic will outlast wood by huge margins, and it is even stamped with realistic wood grain patterns for a lifelike appearance. The latches work perfectly, and the inserts are easily removed as needed. The bees seem interested, and having this placed near fruit trees has helped with having bees rest near it, and hopefully soon they'll begin to use it. This is so well made and perfect for those who don't have a lot of space for full sized hives. For the quality and price, this is well worth the investment for bee enthusiasts and anyone wanting to encourage pollinators into their yards. Overall, this has far exceeded expectations and is an extremely fun and advantageous addition to your yard. This is an extremely well earned 5 stars!!! ... show more
