My kids already enjoy reading but the fact that this features a backlit screen in a lightweight, compact design is just topping on the cake. My son brings it on trips, errands and asks to read before bed. I try to keep it loaded with as many free books as he can find on Amazon. We also sometimes check out books from the library, which is really convenient. The screen resolution is great but if your kids enjoy reading graphic novels they may find some of them difficult to read depending on how they're formatted. The screen is simply too small to enjoy some graphic novels. The case that's included is handy and durable but I wish there were more design/color options. ... show more

This is my first e-reader, and I selected Kindle Kids in part because of Wirecutter's review. I like that it came with a cute case and was supposed to be ad-free. Once I opted out of the Kids option, though, I do get some ads, though the ads are not distracting. I really love that it is SO light and very easy to bring along wherever I go. It works so well in bright sunlight. I also like being able to adjust the font size if my eyes are tired. I am not sure I will go back to paperback books! ... show more

I bought this product during the prime day of 2024 and when I tell you, it probably was the best purchase I have ever received. I was able to customize my Kindle to my speed. I was able to bring my Kindle every single place I go even if I couldn’t bring my book. The battery life is literally amazing. I don’t remember the last time I’ve charged my Kindle and it is still working perfectly. The only thing is it is a little slow, but that comes through all kindles. This was a reward for my kiddo who was uninterested in reading. She had to read 100 20-minute sessions to earn it. The unicorn cover was probably 95% of the motivation. Set up was quick and easy. Parent dashboard is easy to access on my computer or phone. It is a great size for small hands, and the content that is free with the 1 year Kids+ subscription is varied and large, though some of the books she was most interested in reading still cost money. I love that she can request to purchase a book and I can approve or reject the purchase in the parent dashboard. She loves audio books and it was easy to connect to our Bluetooth speaker, but the sound quality is not great. It intermittently gets loud and echoes. We can’t figure out why it’s doing that. This is the best kindle to buy in 2023. I watched a lot of reviews and the kindle kids 11th gen (this one) is the best for your buck. Amazon Kids gives you access to multiple books and it’s free for the first year, it also comes with no ads (only on Amazon Kids mode though). It also has a 2 year warranty included. It’s very light weight and comfortable to use. I’ve had mine for a week now and I only needed to charge it twice (it says weeks but in reality if you read longer than an hour a day, it’ll last about a week). I love how the features of this is essentially the same as the paper white. The only difference is there’s no auto adjust for lighting and there isn’t a warm light setting but I personally don’t like warm light so it doesn’t bother me. I read a lot faster with this and I love it so much. This kindle turned me back into a bookworm. 10/10 would recommend. ... show more
