  • Even though I read a little each day, a week later, I have still never ran the battery down!
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Ad-Supported Color: Twilight Blue Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
I am an IT Professional, with a degree and many certifications in the field. I work on all sorts of technology. So I have never owned a Kindle before in my life. This is the first one I have ever owned and used. I am comparing it to my paper books and my Samsung Smart Phone and Samsung tablet. Comparing picture quality, I am extremely pleased with the Kindle over all other devices. Its very crisp, The letters look sharp and crisper than they do printed on paper. Its glare free and external light sources seem to have no effect. Even reading in the sun is no problem. I have had it for about a month now. As far as reading books goes. This thing is WAY Better for book reading than any Samsung device. Samsung devices have kindle apps and things, but its more about the screen and functionality of it. The screen on a Kindle is an entirely different technology than the Samsungs use. The Kindle is only black and white. But the thing is, Its entirely glare proof too. Virtually as glare proof as a sheet of paper. I have traveled and seen a lot in my life. My eyes are getting old. My optometrist tells me that there is no correction for my vision. My eyes strain a little now when I read. My eyes are just old. So now when my eyes get tired of focusing, That is all I can read for that day. I have noticed since I have a kindle, it comes with some unspoken features. Any book I get, I can increase or decrease the font size to whatever size I prefer to read with. This helps relieve the unnecessary eye strain. Its also very gently backlit. I would call it a kind of un-noticable backlight. Its very gentle. Just enough for a comfortable read in lower light conditions. So I used to carry my KJV Bible around and I would read a bit from it every day. Usually only a chapter at a time before I would get eye strain. I wake up in the morning and go out on the porch and sit in the sun and read. With my kindle, I can read smoother and clearer and read even more than I did with the standard paper Bible. Its a lot lighter too than my paper Bible. Sunlight isnt a problem with it at all either. I can read the kindle outloud better and clearer than I can read my fine print Bible now. I guess that is just a sign I am getting old. But its nice to have a good piece to technology to work as an aid to keep me reading! The books library isnt much of a problem either. I have books on my kindle like the one you see in the pictures that people cant get in print anymore. There are literally more books for the kindle than there are in print in the world. That book in the photo, "Messenger of God" was not in print anywhere at the time of this review and could not be obtained in paper anywhere. Its available on the Kindle and is one of the primary reasons I purchased the kindle overall, I wanted that specific book. Kindle library had it. As a new user, I have learned a lot about how kindles are released and how to buy things for them. They are not progressive like your smartphone is in the technology. For example, Kindle released a 10th gen 2018 model Kindle you can get now with 32Gb of memory. Yet the successor model, a 10th generation Kindle released for Christmas 2019 only has 4Gb of memory, and only 2.7Gb of that is available for books to be stored on. So the 2018 model is actually better to own. They are all different sizes too. You have to take careful look at your model number when you go to buy a case! MAKE SURE YOUR EXACT MODEL NUMBER MATCHES THE CASE YOU BUY! even though they are both 10th gen kindles, the 2018 release is larger than the 2019 release! You have to pay careful attention to that. Search literally using your model number in the search field too. I love the added features like a magnetic "Wake Up" feature in my new case. I just open the lid and it automatically wakes up and ready to read! Thats awesome! So I have also read about a new feature where a person can link their DROPBOX to their kindle books library. I have not figured it out yet, but that sounds really cool! If anyone else reading this knows how it works, I would welcome a reply with instructions! So I would think of a kindle this way. Kindles are very dedicated book reader devices. They do that one thing and do it very well! The PaperWhite 32Gb 2018 release is the model to get right now. If you want to take your reading seriously, or if reading is at all important to you, A Kindle is a great way to go. I would highly recommend it. I am a new and happy customer. I just hope Amazon as a company works out to be a good company to do business with as I go along. Many of these larger corporations have become so political that they treat customers differently based on ideology or differences of opinion. I dont think this is good or decent way to do business. I can only hope I suppose. I like the device. I hope I can be unnoticed by the corporate politics and keep on using it! I really enjoy my new reader! Thank you for making a great product! I am a happy customer! ... show more

Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Ad-Supported Color: Sage Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
So I bought the 10th Generation - 2018 release paperwhite mostly for outdoor use. I wanted the anti glare which you don't get with your cell or tablet in outdoor light. I liked that it had up to 32 GB capacity. It only has a 6" display but the 6.8 display only went up to 16 GB capacity. I was willing to loose the size for the bigger storage. I definitely wanted it to be waterproof and this one is tested to withstand immersion in 2 meters of fresh water for 60 minutes. There is no off button, but it goes quite dim and you have to push the power button to get it usable with a swipe up motion prompt. I have had it at 0% battery for two weeks and still showed a home screen. I don't have a problem with the hitting the power button during use because of my case. I would like it if the charging cable was up top though. I have read that EPUB isn't available but I have downloaded EPUB books and they show up as Docs instead of books. The library has a filter option where you can find the downloaded, read, unread, docs, audible, etc and also how many of each there are. It did take me some getting used to the e-ink display, since I had elected to get a Used - Very Good condition one from the Amazon Warehouse, and had never seen or used something with e-ink I went and watched a video to make sure my ebook was working properly. You will not get good graphics, they will only be black and white and small. What I do is search my books on my tablet in the kindle app, it is super fast and in color so I can see the book clearly and read the details. Then bring them up on my paperwhite using the search button. Absolutely the one thing kindle needs to implement is a side bar with the alphabet so if you want a book that starts with say N, then you just push the N and you can zoom right to those books. I mostly stay in dark mode, even in the day time, but if I go to the light mode and turn the brightness to 0 it will cut out the blue light that bothers people at night. It is still easily readable. And lastly, the function I like most is just needing to touch the edge of the screen, left or right, for the page to turn. You don't have to make a swipe motion, which is great when you are using just one hand. For me, it works perfectly as a book, just like a paper one, except you don't have to worry about ruining it or needing a flashlight in the dark to read. It gives me a library at my finger tips no matter where I am. I don't expect it to do anything more and therefore I am very happy with my paperwhite. Remember it isn't meant to replace your tablet or your kindle app on your tablet. It is just perfectly suited to be an electronic book, that is convenient in its portable size, weather tolerant capabilities and extreme lighting needs. ... show more
