  • Amazing little reader. Love it!
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Ad-Supported Color: Sage Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
The media could not be loaded. I travel a lot and love to read. I decided books are too bulky, and man, was i right?! Pros: +Weight: When it comes to weight, my Kindle Paperweight 2018 edition is 6.4oz, and my iPhone 13 weights the same with a slim cover on. So it’s ridiculously light for being a reading device. +Build: it feels sturdy so I’m not worried it will crack in my backpack. I ordered one in mint green, so it has beautiful color on the back side, I don’t feel the need for a protective cover. I did knit a little sleeve but I wouldn’t buy the $20+ covers on Amazon. +Backlight: amazing to have for reading in low light. I don’t need it during the day, and inly run it to about 6/24 during evening reading with lamp on bedside table turned on. At level 24 it gets super bright! +Battery life: i must have read 5 or so books in past 2 months and only charged it once, because i was traveling and didn’t want it to die on me mid trip. As said above, i barely ever run at above level 6 for backlight and only turn wifi on when downloading books, so this definitely helps. +Ads: I paid for the version that comes with ads after reading other people’s reviews, and I actually don’t mind the ads. It’s only there when you reader is turned off (on standby). And it actually gives me suggestions or inspiration for further read. As soon as you wake up your kindle, the ad disappears. When you manually force your kindle to power off, the screen will be blank. But this is time consuming and powering on and off will be draining more battery. +Format: you can easily adjust Font style and size, spacing, margins, direction (layout)… +Progress: By clicking in the left bottom corner, you can flip between displaying page number, time left in chapter, time left in book,… - i only recently discovered this, and ‘time left in chapter’ has been super useful if i want to just finish one last chapter before putting the reader away before bedtime, since I don’t want to be clicking ahead, trying to find out how many more pages I have left. Cons: -Price: i paid just under $100 w/tax for this 2018 edition, and yes, it is more expensive than renting/buying books, but i feel like it’s a long term investment if it lasts me a few years :) -Touch screen: responsiveness can be little delayed when clicking between pages on library or trying to loads new titles. Just be patient and wait before clicking again. Definitely wouldn’t use this as a browser for internet search, but for flipping through book pages it works great. -Amazon Kindle Unlimited magazines: it doesn’t work well with magazine subscriptions or any books that have lots of pictures and were not made specifically for this format. If pictures get cropped or text ‘too busy’, magazines are difficult to read. I just prefer reading books on my Kindle, and looking at magazines on my tablet or desktop. -Downloading books from public library or your own pdf. can be time consuming if you don’t have the right format. Make sure the file you are trying to send to your device is supported by your Kindle. Otherwise use a free software to convert the file. Can’t send books that are too large, have to manually connect it to desktop and use a cable i guess. Summary: I’m very happy with my purchase and i read a lot more now that I have this Kindle. It doesn’t strain my hands as books do, even though the physical book will always have a special place on my shelf. Easy to use, battery lasts forever. Small and cute design. About 1/3 size of an average novel book, yet you can download hundreds of books onto it and read as you please. I’m taking advantage of the 3-month Kindle unlimited trial that came with my purchase but it also works great with my downloads/loans from my public library. I certainly don’t need any bells and whistles of the newer editions, this is exactly what I needed it for - reading books in paperwhite color. I certainly enjoyed it on a beach in Hawaii over Christmas! Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Even though I read a little each day, a week later, I have still never ran the battery down!
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Ad-Supported Color: Twilight Blue Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
I am an IT Professional, with a degree and many certifications in the field. I work on all sorts of technology. So I have never owned a Kindle before in my life. This is the first one I have ever owned and used. I am comparing it to my paper books and my Samsung Smart Phone and Samsung tablet. Comparing picture quality, I am extremely pleased with the Kindle over all other devices. Its very crisp, The letters look sharp and crisper than they do printed on paper. Its glare free and external light sources seem to have no effect. Even reading in the sun is no problem. I have had it for about a month now. As far as reading books goes. This thing is WAY Better for book reading than any Samsung device. Samsung devices have kindle apps and things, but its more about the screen and functionality of it. The screen on a Kindle is an entirely different technology than the Samsungs use. The Kindle is only black and white. But the thing is, Its entirely glare proof too. Virtually as glare proof as a sheet of paper. I have traveled and seen a lot in my life. My eyes are getting old. My optometrist tells me that there is no correction for my vision. My eyes strain a little now when I read. My eyes are just old. So now when my eyes get tired of focusing, That is all I can read for that day. I have noticed since I have a kindle, it comes with some unspoken features. Any book I get, I can increase or decrease the font size to whatever size I prefer to read with. This helps relieve the unnecessary eye strain. Its also very gently backlit. I would call it a kind of un-noticable backlight. Its very gentle. Just enough for a comfortable read in lower light conditions. So I used to carry my KJV Bible around and I would read a bit from it every day. Usually only a chapter at a time before I would get eye strain. I wake up in the morning and go out on the porch and sit in the sun and read. With my kindle, I can read smoother and clearer and read even more than I did with the standard paper Bible. Its a lot lighter too than my paper Bible. Sunlight isnt a problem with it at all either. I can read the kindle outloud better and clearer than I can read my fine print Bible now. I guess that is just a sign I am getting old. But its nice to have a good piece to technology to work as an aid to keep me reading! The books library isnt much of a problem either. I have books on my kindle like the one you see in the pictures that people cant get in print anymore. There are literally more books for the kindle than there are in print in the world. That book in the photo, "Messenger of God" was not in print anywhere at the time of this review and could not be obtained in paper anywhere. Its available on the Kindle and is one of the primary reasons I purchased the kindle overall, I wanted that specific book. Kindle library had it. As a new user, I have learned a lot about how kindles are released and how to buy things for them. They are not progressive like your smartphone is in the technology. For example, Kindle released a 10th gen 2018 model Kindle you can get now with 32Gb of memory. Yet the successor model, a 10th generation Kindle released for Christmas 2019 only has 4Gb of memory, and only 2.7Gb of that is available for books to be stored on. So the 2018 model is actually better to own. They are all different sizes too. You have to take careful look at your model number when you go to buy a case! MAKE SURE YOUR EXACT MODEL NUMBER MATCHES THE CASE YOU BUY! even though they are both 10th gen kindles, the 2018 release is larger than the 2019 release! You have to pay careful attention to that. Search literally using your model number in the search field too. I love the added features like a magnetic "Wake Up" feature in my new case. I just open the lid and it automatically wakes up and ready to read! Thats awesome! So I have also read about a new feature where a person can link their DROPBOX to their kindle books library. I have not figured it out yet, but that sounds really cool! If anyone else reading this knows how it works, I would welcome a reply with instructions! So I would think of a kindle this way. Kindles are very dedicated book reader devices. They do that one thing and do it very well! The PaperWhite 32Gb 2018 release is the model to get right now. If you want to take your reading seriously, or if reading is at all important to you, A Kindle is a great way to go. I would highly recommend it. I am a new and happy customer. I just hope Amazon as a company works out to be a good company to do business with as I go along. Many of these larger corporations have become so political that they treat customers differently based on ideology or differences of opinion. I dont think this is good or decent way to do business. I can only hope I suppose. I like the device. I hope I can be unnoticed by the corporate politics and keep on using it! I really enjoy my new reader! Thank you for making a great product! I am a happy customer! ... show more
