  • Works as advertised, just take your time
Color: Silver Size: 29.5 Inch X 13.1 Feet
The front of our house faces the west and there is not any trees or shade in the front of the house. There are 9 full windows and are all double pained. Also, we have a full storm door and the main door knob was too hot to use the electronic lock in the summer. I had purchased cellular window shades to try to keep the heat from the sun out of the rooms and while it works, it’s not as effective as I wanted. We have central air and needed to do something else since the front rooms were always really warm in the summer and the back rooms were not. I had been doing research on how to reduce the effects of heat through the glass and also sun blocking and finally purchased these rolls. Preparation work on the windows is a MUST. Clean them with window cleaner and then use a razor blade to make sure there isn’t anything stuck to each window. I used a cloth rag to brush away anything left on the window. If you don’t completely clear the windows, you will see the dirt streaks or marks under the film. I used a piece of plywood enable me to measure and cut the film with an Exacto knife. The Draino bottles in the pictures were to hold the end of the film so I can measure and cut the film, using the T square to try to keep the cuts straight. I only cut the film from the roll and then did the final cuts on the window. When installing I sprayed the window with a water/dishwashing solution then placed and used a small squeegee to push the water and air out of in-between the film and window enough to hold the film onto the window. Adhesion to the window was simple easy to use once the protective film was removed. After getting the film stable on the window I then used a small straight edge ruler to push the film down and as close to the edge of the pane of glass and guide the knife along the edge of the window. Make sure you check all edges prior to cutting and take your time. The film cuts very easily. There is a noticeable difference in temperature in the front rooms as I did all nine windows and the full storm door. I’m not sure about AC cost reduction yet. I do know that the bedrooms and front downstairs rooms are much cooler upstairs. The house seems to be more equalized in temperature with all this hot weather we have experienced recently. The door knob isn’t extremely hot in the afternoon. The windows do look a little different with the film and you can’t see into them during the day. The top windows in my picture are completed. We went with the silver film as it’s not completely “blacked out” and the window appears to just have a “shine” in them. That’s great and I am impressed with the film. ... show more

  • Work very well for not being a professional install
Color: Silver Size: 29.5 Inch X 6.5 Feet
These were not that hard to install, if you follow instructions and take your time they can look very good. My pictures show during daytime you cannot see inside, and you can see outside with minimal visual distortion. I did not take night pictures, but at night you can see inside. The only downside to these is that looking from inside to the outside at night seemed very poor. This is what I found to work best for install. If you have plenty of material left over after cutting out what you need, use some of the excess to practice with. 1. Get a good squeegee - I got this one EHDIS Small Squeegee 5 inch Rubber Window Tint Squeegee for Car, Glass, Mirror, Shower, Auto,Windows 2. Thoroughly clean your windows. Don't just wipe them down, clean them. Clean them a few times. 3. Measure the glass you want to cover, then add at least a half inch to each edge. So if your window is 20" wide, you want at least 21" of material or more. 4. Cut your material to the amount you just figured out. 5. Make a spray bottle of soapy water. Don't go crazy with the soap, just a drop or two is plenty. 6. Spray your window so that every inch is wet and the water is dripping down - you cannot get it too wet. 7. Peel the plastic protective sheet off the film. 8. Spray the cling side of the film (the same side that had the protective plastic) with your soapy water. 9. Give another couple sprays to the window, especially the top edge if your water has dripped down. 10. Place the film onto the window so that the edges overlap the window. The film will automatically cling to the window and some of the soapy water will go away. You can adjust the position of the film as necessary to get the edges overlapping. 11. Use the squeegee ONLY in a small section of the center of the window - DO NOT wipe to the edges. This will help the film stay in place while you cut it to fit. You do not want to squeegee to the edges because you still need the soapy water to help the edges stick after you get the film trimmed to size. 12. Use a sharp hobby/exacto knife to cut the film. Push the film down so that it gets as far into the corner of the glass and the frame as possible. I found it easier to start from the middle and work my way into the corners. Go VERY SLOW! A nice slow cut will help you cut straight. I also found it helpfull to cut an entire sliver off, and not just to the corner of the window. 13. Once you have it completely trimmed, use the squeegee starting from the center of the window and work your way to the outside edges. Do it multiple times, even if it looks like the soapy water is gone. 14. If you have any edges that are not sticking, gently pull the edge back far enough that you can spray more soapy water in there, then use the squeegee again. ... show more

  • Not too reflective and helps with temperature.
Color: Black-silver Size: 35.4 Inch X 8.2 Feet
I was worried that I was going to make my house look silly with industrial looking reflective window coverings. Not at all. It isn't super shiny, which is a positive. However it does substantially reduce the temperature of the room that has large west facing windows. I was hoping it would work but had little faith. I am really surprised how well the film is working and thinking of getting it for to put in all the windows. We used it in our north facing windows in our bedroom to block a the brightness of the morning sun and that worked too. It's like putting sunglasses on, I can still see the sun, but it doesn't blind me. Really happy with this product. Make sure to get a spray bottle and squeegee for easy application. There were a few bubbles when I finished putting on the film, but a few days later after the water had time to evaporate, they were gone. I needed an extra set of hands while putting it on, but with two people it was pretty easy to hang. I haven't tried to take it down, but it seems like it would be really easy to remove. I think it's priced a little too high for what it is to be honest. Hoping I'll see some savings in my electric bill this summer though. ... show more
