  • Compare to eBags Professional
Size: 15-Inch Style: Backpack
I really wanted to like this backpack as much as the eBags TLD Professional. I spent hours researching different bags. It seemed to be similar design, but at a much lower price tag. This is a long review, but I broke it up so you can hopefully get the answer you are looking for without reading the entire thing. Pros and cons are at the bottom. One of my favorite things about this backpack stands up on its own and doesn't 'flop' or collapse on itself. My comparison and thoughts are below. If you want the short version: If you are on a tighter budget but want something functional and professional, this is your best bet for a backpack, but not meant for travel or carrying larger items. Space: Unfortunately I wouldn't say it is comparable space-wise, and that is the only downfall of this bag. My only complaint with the compartments is actually something I thought would be great - how the main compartment kind of expands when you open it. In actuality this just means when you put something in and close the bag, I nearly always have to force it close while zipping up. The eBag has the fully open main compartment that doesn't need to be forced closed. However, for a simple work bag with a laptop, small items and some books, it works perfectly. I used to pack my gym close in my old bag, and putting shoes a water bottle, and a few clothing items in here nearly overfills the compartment. Quality: Quality-wise, it is top notch! I am extremely impressed with the quality of this bag. I have zero complaints. It looks professional, and feels great while wearing it! I might even say that it is a bit more comfortable than the eBag. I suppose part of this is related to the size and how it fits well on my back. The stitching is solid, which is important to me considering I had my last backpack for well over 9 years of daily use. I want something that will last. Compartments The laptop compartment is pretty standard. I do appreciate the extra padding at the bottom to absorb shock from setting it down. It also contains a tablet slot, which works fine. Like I mentioned above, the main compartment is a bit small, so just be aware of that if you purchase. It also contains two smaller elastic slots where I am able to store an external HDD, and my laptop charger. There is a convenient side pocket that I store a few small items in on one side, and a water bottle holder that can be used after unzipping on the other side. It is a bit small, but looks great while not using it. Zipped up it can be used for holding other items without fear of them falling out due to being zipped - a unique feature. The front compartment has a great array of little space dividers - which is really what sets this backpack apart from others and makes it comparable to the eBag. I have a small assortment of things like quarters, hand wipes, flash drives, hard drives, etc. stored. However it unzips at the top, and does not swing out like the eBag which was one of my favorite things. The outer flap covers this section so it looks sleek and professional. There is also a small zippered compartment (that is about the size of a Ziploc bag) on top that is great for a wallet or phone - I use it daily. Comfort/Style This is where the backpack really shines. It is probably one of the most comfortable backpacks I have worn. It has three breathable 1/4" pads at the top, middle, and bottom of the back rest between the straps. The eBag either had to have the straps too tight where I struggled to get it on, or a little more loose which made the backpack sit lower and was less comfortable. The other notable difference is that the zippers do not constantly clink like the eBag. I had to buy 'zipper silencers' for the eBag (didn't even know they were a thing until I needed them!). This bag does not have any annoying clinks. Security The locking system in this bag is amazing! It is so clean and crisp. It is easy to place the zippers in the lock quickly, which is important to me since I leave my bag at my desk during meetings and have some IT equipment in there. I really like this feature and wish the eBag had something similar. Pros Bag retains shape and 'stands' on its own and does not collapse in on itself when there are not items in it. Professional-looking High quality Numerous functional compartments Extremely comfortable Fantastic security lock Cons Main compartment is too small ... show more

  • KENSINGTON'S RARA AVIS: A bag that delivers EXACTLY what is advertised AND MORE on Amazon!!!!
Size: 17-Inch Style: Backpack
In an era where little is ever delivered exactly as it is described, this Kensington 17" lockable backpack is a rarity. Although nothing is perfect - and I would like a brighter color interior to see items down in the deep/abundant pockets better, and few small changes made - overall the design, materials, workmanship, and functionality for a Million Mile intl business flyer like myself are as close to perfect for my needs as I have found. (photos to come) I rarely if ever check a bag, because as all road warriors know, that is death to getting in and out of airports quickly or worse they get lost or tossed. So having this spacious - yet easily stowed under most airplane seats/overhead bins - overnight bag is so helpful. If you pack smart and it isn't dead of winter at your destination? One can easily pack two day's of business casual attire in the clothing section, plus a 15 inch MacBook Pro (in well padded area), 10.5 iPad + keyboard (also padded), headphones in case, digital camera, 10k backup battery/chargers + cables, two iPhones, sunglasses, readers, a Kindle, 750ml SIGG waterbottle (inside or in zippered exterior holder), keys (on provided clip), mini umbrella, magazines (if you still do that tree wasting stuff) and work folders with plenty of room to spare. Fully loaded, it rests as well on my shoulders as it does sitting atop my rolling carryon. I don't need to reiterate the excellent descriptions and photos in Kensington's advert above only to say that all claims are true, and point out some important details that I don't remember them emphasizing: 1. This bag empty is VERY light for its dimensions: a huge plus in this era now that airlines weigh everything going on the plane (and no doubt soon will start weighing customers!) 2. The twill nylon exterior looks quite nice and seems good for resisting marks and tears (will update after a month on the road) 3. Unmentioned, the bottom of the bag has a high density, likely waterproof, rubberized PVC layer to protect against it being ruined on rough floors or in wet places. 4. There is a discrete yet handy top zip pocket just below the carry handle that accepts my RayBans in a hard case, or could take a passport + wallet, keys, and or a smartphone or two for easy access in airports etc. 5. As all laptop bags should, it has the lie-flat TSA friendly laptop section for those who aren't TSA Pre/Global Entry (in the USA). 6. The locking/tether system is the best I've seen, the zippers strong and solid, zipper pulls are a very durable metal. There is no way to get into this bag without destroying it - which makes insurance claims much more likely to succeed - should a dummy thief not just go past your bag to an easier one next to it. In summary: This bag is well made, good looking, has all the features I need and is incredibly good Value For Money at about $95 delivered. The ability to secure this bag in hotels without safes, open workspaces and airports/lounges/trains where you don't wish to constantly keep an eye on your bag while working, or drag it to the bathroom with you for a wee minute or two, is just invaluable to me on the road. If you carry around today's full business kit, you likely have some $3000-5000 of easily stolen/sold items in your bag -never mind your papers and passport. To be able to secure it all in a handsome $100 bag is IMO both a large dose of design magic and a no-brainer: BUY THIS BAG. ... show more

  • Locking Device Needs Improvement
Size: 15-Inch Style: Briefcase
I like the bag and it has a lot of pockets inside. The one problem I had was using a regular lock on the top where the flap covers the four zipper heads. I purchased their combination lock with this bag, but the instructions are terrible since they are only bag illustrations and nothing else. On the top of the bag is the mechanism where the four zipper heads are pressed into position beneath a flap then a lock can be added. The hole is too small for anything but the smallest keyed padlock I could find which can easily be broken. I tried the next size up, which was also small, and it would not fit in the hole as shown in my photo and another photo that shows the two small locks together. The lock with the square base is larger than the one showing in the third photo which is more rounded. The rounded base lock is smaller and the only lock that would fit. If not interested in locking this bag it is a very nice and sturdy bag with a lot of space. This is for a 15 inch laptop. I wished I had purchased the 17 inch bag so I could fit my 17 inch laptop in this bag with my Chromebook which already fits with the 15 inch laptop leaving a lot of space left in various pockets. ... show more
