  • Flawless Plug & Play - Works Like Magic
Style: Display: Dual HDMI
After fighting with three other brands of docking stations, none of which were ever stable nor properly functioned, and sure weren't plug & play - they seemed to be compatible with nothing. This Kensington dock is truly a marvel. Plug & play right from the moment I turned on the system and hasn't had a blip since. Using the Thunderbolt 4 output to DisplayPort 1.4 gosh my monitor is now able to run full 4K at 160 Hz. With the Kensington dock I can finally enjoy all the technology benefits of my high end laptop and 4K monitor. All the hours I spent in frustration with 3 other docks, if I had bought this one first I would have been up and running without any issues in minutes. If you have a Windows laptop and want Thunderbolt 4 capability, I'd go with this dock. ... show more

  • It actually works
Style: Display: Dual HDMI
I bought a thinkpad x1 carbon gen11. I tried a dell dock, then a thinkpad universal t4 dock. You would think that things would work with the lenovo laptop and a lenovo dock. No. I bought this dock and am returning the others. I plugged this in and everything worked perfectly.

  • Avoid Ground Loop
Style: Display: USB C
In an ideal world, the dock handles all the I/O to my MacBook and supplies it with power. Need to take the laptop somewhere? No need to unplug my various USB devices, headset and the Magsafe power cable from my Macbook. Just unplug the single USB-C Thunderbolt 4 cable connecting my laptop to the dock. That's how I imagined I would use my dock, but troubles began when I started chatting with my friends on Discord and told me my microphone sounded horrible. I was using my Drop/Sennheiser 38X which I had been using over half a year now without issue, but now through the dock. The drop in audio quality through my mic and the audio output also dropping in and out constantly throughout voice calls made me plug my headset into the laptop directly. The DAC in the dock seems to be much poorer quality than whatever the MacBook had to offer, so it was fine. Now I have to plug in two devices into the MacBook directly: my headset through the 3.5mm audio jack and the TS4 dock on a USB-C port. I was happy with this for a while, but then I noticed a hissing noise coming from the dock when my room was silent. While it is not that loud, it does get on my nerves when I want to work in a quiet setting without putting any music on. It's definitely audible in a quiet room. If you're thinking about buying this, think about whether you're sensitive to ambient noise, particularly hums and hisses from electronics. That and imagine that the dock has no working 3.5mm audio jack. After much consideration, I decided to return my dock. The audio jack I can live without, but the noise is too much to deal with even if the dock provides convenience in managing I/O with a laptop. EDIT: I wrote this review not realizing that the noise from the dock was due to what's called a ground loop. To avoid this, make sure you plug in all your connected device to a single outlet. The noise is gone now along with the audio issues. Audio quality through the dock is worse than through my MacBook Pro, but it is more than serviceable and there are no other issues with the dock. ... show more

  • Works with Mac AND windows
Style: Display: USB C
I have struggled finding a docking station that works with both windows and mac as I work from home on windows and do my own thing on Mac so I for sure needed it. But this works flawlessly and displays the highest resolution my laptop and max can display!

  • works well with 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max
Style: Display: USB C
I looked at a bunch of Thunderbolt 4 docks to use with my 2021 MacBook Pro. The features I cared about were - upstream Thunderbolt 4 host connection, - upstream (host) charging, - ethernet, - as many downstream Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and USB-A ports as possible. I ended up with this item, the Kensington SD5700T. I have it connected to 1G ethernet, an LG 5K monitor, two external USB 3.2 gen 1 dual-SSD drive enclosures, keyboard/mouse, and a ScanSnap. The LG 5K display requires a Thunderbolt 3 connection. The others are all USB devices. (I could not find any decent, compact, low-cost Thunderbolt drive bays and settled on the Cable Matters Aluminum Dual-Bay SSD enclosure.) I've been using this dock for about a month now and it's been working fine. My only complaint is that it has a separate power brick that is as big as the dock itself. Hence the four star rating. I would love to find a good TB4 dock that has a built-in power supply, but every one I looked at has an external power brick. I considered the following docks/hubs, which all connect to the host by Thunderbolt 4: - Kensington SD5700T (this one). Has 90W host charging, 3 downstream TB4 ports, 4 USB-A ports, ethernet, SD card, and 3.5mm audio. I bought this from Amazon for $330. - Brydge Stone Pro TB4 - not yet released. Same ports as the Kensington but expected to cost $20 more. - OWC Thunderbolt Dock - not released at the time I was looking. Same ports as the Kensington, but $50 less. I would have bought this were it available at the time. - Anker Apex 12-in-1 - has two HDMI ports I don't care about but fewer TB/USB-C ports than the Kensington. - Plugable TBT4-HUB3C - 3 downstream TB4 ports and nothing else. But it's only $190. - Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock - almost the same as the Kensington but only 3 USB-A ports. $10 cheaper if you don't want RGB lighting. - CalDigit Element Hub - 3 TB 4 ports, 4 USB-A ports, 60W host charging, and nothing else. But only $250. - Sonnet Echo 11 - same ports as the Kensington, $10 cheaper, but not available on Amazon. ... show more
