  • very good HiFi system
Color: White Style: Wireless II
very good HiFi system. I wanted to get this system for a long time, but I was using 2K Bose speakers for 5 years and could not convince myself to spend over 4k to similar sound system. But I can say that you can feel the difference. My first impression of this speaker is very heavy! 20lbs each with 40lbs subwoofer in this small size. Im sure there are lots of components and technology inside. I can define this speaker as a HiFi headphone quality in a speaker version. When I first use HD800, I could hear sound that other speaker couldn't produce due to the noise and sensitivity. LS50 W2 will bring you to the next level. It lets you hear whatever the original recording. It is crystal clear and I felt the sound is warm. very good for listening musics as well as movie and sports. Well, surround speakers with Dolby ATMOS may give you more exciting sound, but Im sure you will get tired of tuned sound and want to look for a speaker that produces the original sound. LS50 w2 sound quality is beyond my expectation. I originally was not amazed by KC62 subwoofer, but now I cannot listen without this. It gives much deeper and heavy sound yet the high is clear. one downside is that the woofer does not come with the RCA cable. I thought the subwoofer is wireless, but it needs additional $200 adapter to be wireless. You should expect to have RCA cable before purchasing the woofer. Besides this, the sound quality is amazing and I don't regret my choice. I will enjoy this speaker until I will probably look for 10K system in next 5-10 years. :D ... show more

  • They would be perfect, but...
Color: Black Style: Wireless II
First the pros: Sound: These active speakers sound amazing. Their imaging and sound stage is so fantastic for this price it is kind of hard to understand how they do it. I have the speakers on some solidsteel stands on either side of a large sofa pointing into a great room and sitting on the couch (between the speakers that are facing away from me!) they still sound good? We weren't expecting to get acceptable stereo presentation from between and behind the speakers, but there you go. Obviously with proper placement they sound better than anything we tested under $5k, but their off axis listening is amazing too. Everywhere in that 30ft x 30ft room sounds great! We did sub-out at 85hz to a nice subwoofer but that is personal preference; no bookshelf speaker in the world save perhaps the $8k Genelec's would have enough bass for us. Interface: The new app is acceptable, which given the reviews for the Wireless 1 that is definitely worth mentioning. The advertised compatibility with chromecast, tidal connect, etc. all worked. The built in low pass in the app works perfectly for subs and you also get instantaneous sliders for gain settings which is appreciated. The inputs/outputs cover what I suspect will be most people's needs, and what it doesn't cover can be handled by a simple Pi Roon box or USB-SPDIF converter for integration into existing systems (note this is an entire system in a box already, though, so the rest is just gravy). You can also sub-out from both units. Fit and finish: They aren't made of exotic wood or to look like $20,000 bookshelf speakers and if that is your jam it is the only ding I can think of. Other than that these things look and feel like the future is now. To say they are better built than any other MidFi or HiFi gear I have or tested under $5,000 is an understatement. My exotic wood designed to look like a million bucks Bowers and Wilkins seem less well built by comparison which is wild. Customer support: Everything you would expect from a firm with this kind of reputation. Cons: - The app isn't great, it is just fine. This isn't necessarily a negative, though. Let Tidal, Roon, Google, and Apple spend the tens if not hundreds of millions on software development and system compatibility. Once you are set up with your environment controller of your choice (chromecast/Google Home, Roon, Apple, etc.) you only need the KEF app for settings. Your needs may vary, and the app is good enough to enjoy the product. We did so for a few weeks that way in fact. But it just can't compete with cutting edge Silicon Valley app suites. - Now for the big one. The wireless connection between the two units didn't work on my first unit out of the box. Tons of troubleshooting/testing later and I have a replacement set that has a stable connection between the two devices over 2.4Ghz, although this new set doesn't keep a perfectly stable connection on the network. So far it is only a minor inconvenience (resetting the box every so often and adding it back in via Google Home). It is not the deal breaker the first issue was, just annoying. I suspect either the wireless cards themselves or the internal antennas are just not up to the task or need some tweaking, which is upsetting given how perfect the rest of this product is. Hopefully it isn't a hardware issue and future firmware updates will get this sorted out. If so, there is no other product that does this task (filling a room with great sound from a single package you control wirelessly through your phone) that I could recommend. TL;DR: These are so close to perfect. If the wireless connectivity issues between units or with different kinds of network environments can get sorted out these get 5 stars and all of my money. ... show more

  • The best combination of high quality sound, functionality, and compactness that I've encountered
Color: Black Style: Wireless II
As someone who appreciates high quality sound and wants that with the convenience of multi-room functionality that Wi-Fi streaming provides, this speaker system is an absolute revolution. It says a lot about the situation that I spent way less time setting up the new system than I did taking down the old one. I estimate that I replaced more than 170 lbs of equipment with around 40 lbs that this pair of speakers (including built-in amps and etc) weighs. So much less clutter! Setup was effortless and effective, the sound is better (and it was previously quite good, until recently, when my old power amp died) and the functionality is spectacularly better. This system offers an extremely simple and direct route to decent to very good sound (better at the price than I could achieve with lots of careful effort over many years) and all the functionality that I, personally, currently want. I used an inexpensive old subwoofer with the old setup. I continue to use it with these new speakers. I think I would be happy without the subwoofer, but like the tiny bit of additional rich low-bass and kick that it provides. That points to something that astonishes me about this system. The KEF Connect app equalizer made it very easy to account for the situation of the speakers in the room and to incorporate the subwoofer. I'm a software developer, and think they did an extremely good job with the human factors of the app. I don't need or want the app to provide the functionality that my streaming music players provide – as another reviewer said, let Google and App and Tidal, Roon, etc do that. I'm very pleased with how well the app does what I need it to do. Similarly, the remote control gives me a convenient way to adjust the volume, mute, and on rare occasions when the I need to override the automatic source detection, change the source. I haven't yet said anything specific about the sound, and I'm still finding out how it is. So far, I'm delighted. I'm finding more clarity, richness, and dynamics than I've experienced before in my home. I continue to go through different parts of my collection, as the mood strikes, and discover myself enjoying aspects of the music that I hadn't noticed before. People often talk about the almost palpable imaging that Kef's coincident-centers Uni-Q drivers provide. It's true, and it enhances the experience. The thing is, I haven't found any downsides. As I said, they're still new, there's more to discover. But I'm happy. (-: I've only had the speakers for a few weeks, and am wary of an "all eggs in one basket" dependency on them. I will be dependent on KEF and/or after-market repair services if something breaks. That said, this is KEF's second iteration of the model, which could mean that a lot of the bugs have been shaken out. Plus I was in a bind with the old system when my power amp died, and that's the case for any component in the multi-component chain. It's all trade-offs. Ultimately, I got a high quality, exquisitely well-integrated system. Provided that they're reliable, for anyone who streams music in their home, these are the best prospects that I've encountered for getting high fidelity and high functionality at anywhere near this price, more so than anything else I've seen up to now. ... show more
