  • Quiet Performance Mod - Quality Engineering
Style: Metal
First, I installed this on a 2018 Grand Cherokee Limited Sterling edition with the 5.7L equipped with the tow package. I have also installed K&N intake systems on at least 6 other vehicles over the last decade. As expected the fit and engineering is very good. It took less than 20 minutes to install - in part because there are not many factory mounting points and removal of the stock intake system takes about 2 minutes. After installing I took it for a 5 mile test drive - mainly to see what the noise level is. I was surprised how quiet the K&N system is for this vehicle. Probably the quietest intake I have installed to date, and it only has a slight grumble at full open throttle above 3,000 RPM. That is a good thing - my wife rolled her eyes when she saw the box arrive, and at idle and normal acceleration is really isn’t much louder than stock. Throttle response is slightly better and I have no idea if I’ll see an increase in mileage, but I’ve actually been happy with the 19-20 we have seen in the first 1,000 miles. As others have mentioned, be careful with the air sensor - it’s fragile but as long as you remove and replace by hand you will be fine. There is a metal coolant line on my Jeep that runs under the intake - I had to bend the bracket on the line to allow it to clear but you can also fine tune the angle of the intake tube before tightening the fittings on both sides. Looks great and I like the reusable / washable filter. I’d buy this again. ... show more

  • GREAT PRODUCT BUT OVER PRICED
Style: Roto-Molded
Sounds awesome! OK, so the claim about better fuel mileage is a stretch and many will deny that you'll get any horsepower but it certainly feels more powerful even if it is just my ears playing tricks on my other senses. Which brings me back to the sound. If you think your Grand Cherokee is too quiet like I did then this is the mod for you. It's not so loud that it is annoying, in fact you only really hear it when you are over half throttle but when you do it's sweet music for the soul. The only bad part about this product is the price. K&N charges A LOT for this. Too much in fact. I only bought mine because it was a "scratch & dent" special. There are other companies that get you almost the same thing except with aluminum tubing for $150 - $160. Some will claim you get more power with plastic tubing because it stays cooler but I really doubt it. As long as air is moving through the tube it stays cool. Yes, the K&N is built in America and the other brands are China built which is the only reason I paid more but hopefully these other companies cause K&N to reduce their prices a little, I'm sure they can still keep their lights on with a 200% mark up. They can claim R&D cost all they want but the filter technology was paid for a long time ago and the ducting route really isn't that complicated. And don't even get me started on AIRAID, those guys are robbing us blind! But I would certainly recommend this product as long as you can get a good price. ... show more

  • K&N Reputation & Quality
Style: 50 State Legal
While the horsepower claims are not really important, especially in a vehicle like my Jeep the increase in induction noise is pleasant and the knowledge of being able to clean the filter and that it will last as long as the vehicle is a major pro. Install is simple, I'll just leave it at that. It does clean up the engine bay a good deal as well. There is a slight whistle that comes from the intake at low part throttle application, and it's not due to a leak as far as I can tell. Overall very satisfied with the performance and look. I caution anyone looking to purchase this that plans to regularly off-road their vehicle with K&N intakes, to flow more air it normally requires a slightly larger passage in the filter material which can allow dust to pass through the filter despite the oil in the filter which is prone to clogging in high dirt/dust environments. This is first hand advise coming from someone who has worked with numerous off-road vehicles. ... show more

  • Sound is awesome. Gain in horsepower...some improvement
Style: 50 State Legal
The media could not be loaded. The intake installation was a breeze. If you have the tools you need (8mm and 10mm sockets, ratchet with extension, 9/16 wrench, pliers and scissors/sheers), you are good to go. It took me about an hour between locating tools, reading directions and installation. If I had to do it again, should take 20-30 minutes now. The sound it makes now is awesome. See the before and after video I attached. The only issue I have is that I do not see a big 17bhp advertised gain in horsepower. But there surely is some. My 2012 Durango used to do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds when it had under 20k miles on it. I have a YouTube video of that. Now that it has about 70k miles, it was doing about 8.2 seconds. After I installed the intake, I see about 7.7 seconds. So, I recovered about half of the lost horsepower I had lost. I am happy enough with that. The best part is the sound it now makes and the RPM goes up much faster. Maybe a tune up will help. I also see some gain at higher speeds, but I don't have a quarter mile run numbers from my OEM intake. See Before/After pictures and video. ... show more
