  • A very sturdy wire stand.
My husband and I are both professional musicians. Sometimes, we want a compact, lightweight wire stand instead of lugging a Manhasset. This is perfect. It is sturdy and has a wide enough base to not fall over all the time. As a flute player, I need a stand tall enough for me to stand up straight while reading music (I'm 5'8"). Bending over a music stand causes neck and back problems. It can also inhibit good tone production in younger players. I have taught private lessons for many years. I have seen many young students mangle the music table on these stands trying to fold them out. It is very simple, once you read the instructions. However, reading the instructions doesn't seem to be the go-to first step for most kids - lol! Parents my want to supervise the initial setup. ... show more

  • Extremely well made stand
After putting up too long with a stand that kept flopping over and was hard to tighten, a flutist friend recommended this one. It’s a bit pricey so I was hesitant, but now that I have it, I’m so glad I treated myself. It’s definitely heavier than my previous one, but that’s a worthwhile tradeoff. Occasionally I need to use large binders for gigs, and I’m sure this will hold them with ease. ... show more

  • Recommended to us for ease of traveling to chamber music competitions
We've had this stand for almost five months, but it received regular use through the spring (about twice a week every week). We purchased it because I had trouble finding a carry-on large enough to fit our Peak stand (which I really like). When I asked the other members and their families how they were able to fit their music stands, they told me they had smaller ones. I was given the link to purchase this one. It's just under 19 1/4 inches when folded up and weighs maybe 4 pounds. When collapsed, the circumference is almost 10 inches. I wouldn't really call it lightweight because the metal makes it (at least seem) heavier than the Peak stand. I was warned that it can be tricky unfolding and folding it the first time. However, you just need to see it done once. I believe that there are cheaper, similar stands that have problems with stripped screws. I can update the review if that does happen. I was directed to this stand compared to other similar stands from a friend who purchased this some time ago and used it for their children. Someone else liked it so much that they bought it as a gift for them. The feet aren't encased in rubber but in a harder plastic. Because this is metal, I feel like if it tipped over, it would damage our (soft) wood floors - compared to the Peak stand. That's why I use the Peak stands at home. If you're trying to decide between the Peak stand and this one and are on a tight budget (or cannot justify paying for two expensive stands), I suggest going with this one for chamber music (rehearsals and competitions). You will use the K&M because it is much more compact. Also, I noticed that the chamber music members who rehearsed at our house would move away our Peak stands and take out their own stands. (That could just have been habit, though.) ... show more

  • but I like this stand so much that I feel ok doing ...
Normally I wait until I have a product for awhile before a review, but I like this stand so much that I feel ok doing a review now. I got this stand because one group, that I play in, has all of their music in binders. Smaller collapsible stands simply are not strong enough. This K&M stand is made in Germany and is very strong. All parts fit well and no assembly or disassembly is required. The only problem I had was in setting up the top section that holds the music. As noted in other reviews, you have to read the directions first and follow them very carefully. Personally, I thought the directions were a little skimpy, but my mechanical aptitude is not the highest either. The top section support long pieces must be turned up vertically and be above the the center wide piece. The shorter vertical sections must be pointed down. Only then can you start to unfold the top section. Note that this step is quite different from any other folding stand. Take your time and learn how to set up the stand and practice a few times. Don't wait until 5 minutes before you start your gig. I will continue to use my lighter stands, but not for heavy music books, binders, etc..Shipping and packaging were fine. I also bought the bag which is just okay. Note that there are cheaper stands that look very similar to the K&M. You get what you pay for and the bolts in the knobs are made from pot metal. My favorite stand is a Manhasset. I use them at home and if they are available at gig locations. They are a pain to lug around though so a good collapsible stand is a good investment and convenience. ... show more

  • waste your time no more!
Look no more and just buy this one! As a musician, you'll definitely want this one! It's perfect to bring to any rehearsal, while seated or standing or while inside or outside (sturdy on grass or with wind!). The quality is great - this stand is really durable and feels so sturdy! There's nothing more frustrating than using a cheap stand that can't keep it's height because the clasps/screws aren't tight enough; or is too flimsy to annotate your music because you're concerned the stand isn't strong enough. It's functional and also looks great! It's not shiny and instead has a matte finish. Another good thing to note is that the stand stays as one piece and is very compact. You can't dissemble it it, or lose any parts, which is great. If you try to fully extend the stand to its max height, there's a stopper in the stand that will prevent the pieces from coming apart. Compared to some of the classic inexpensive metal stands, you have to be careful when fully extending it because the pieces will actually come apart. I grew up using this stand and was SO excited to find it on Amazon! Definitely worth it to buy this stand! ... show more
