Description

Bring home a culinary classic from the Classic Reversible End Grain Chopping Block collection by John Boos. The Classic collection features butcher blocks made with beautiful end grain construction, resulting in the iconic checkerboard wood pattern. Classic Reversible blocks are available in thicknesses ranging from 2.25-6 inches. True to their roots, Classic Collection Chopping Blocks are ideal for daily cutting, chopping and food preparation tasks. Since 1887, every genuine John Boos cutting board and butcher block has been proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques. Today, USA made John Boos cutting boards and butcher blocks are used and loved in commercial and home kitchens worldwide. Generations of culinary professionals have trusted and relied on John Boos products, because Boos blocks and cutting boards are designed to meet the demanding requirements of culinary professionals who expect the highest level of quality and food safety standards. The robust and durable construction gives the work surface a commercial grade toughness that protects the sharp edge on fine cutlery. Often imitated, John Boos and Co. is internationally known for its expertise in crafting American hardwoods into products of beauty, durability and function. Simple board care can ensure this heirloom, handcrafted board is a favorite in your kitchen for years to come. Every John Boos Board and Block comes with a food safe natural oil finish that helps protect the wood during transit. Once a month, apply an even coat of John Boos Mystery Oil (NSF approved, sold separately), and allow it to soak in overnight. Repeat this process more often when the board is brand new or if you live in a dry, arid climate. John Boos recommends applying John Boos Board Cream (also sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface after applying the Mystery Oil. A few quick minutes of regular oil application will ensure your new board is properly seasoned, and ready for work! After use, wash board with warm, soapy water (all wooden cutting boards are not dishwasher safe and should not be soaked in water)..

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars overall finish sub par for the price
Size: 15" x 15" x 3" Style: Block Color: Walnut
Upon first inspection this seems to be a very well made block. The quality of the wood, I am certainly not an expert, looks to be very good also. Out of the box it appeared to be a little dry. I washed it with cutting board soap and allowed it to air dry. Further inspection confirms what I originally thought. The wood was dry but more irritating was the wood finishing. The edge bevels were slightly uneven and rough. The hand hold cuts were very rough. It claims to be reversible but the underside (as determined by the Boos logo upside down) is very rough across much of the surface. Certainly useable but maybe not acceptable. The dryness appears to be alleviated by board oil treatment and waxing. As some other reviewers experienced there is a small wobble. Easily corrected but just another annoyance. Since I have not used it for it intended purpose I will most likely return this. Assuming that to be the case they will be getting back a block in better condition then it arrived. I have a couple of Boos cutting boards from years back a bit pricey but relatively perfect. At this price the QC should have been much better. Whether it goes back or stays it is certainly my last Boos product. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars UNFORTUNATE Flaws and customer support
Size: 18" x 18" x 3" Style: Block Color: Maple
Ohh my, this is difficult, and I think that it's probably difficult for them as-well. When you make such a wonderful product, but it's impossible to give a lifetime warrantee for natural products, especially wood. I mean, these are so good and expensive that you can gift them to your children, and their grandchildren. The only problem that I have found is that they failed to send me a perfect board, so now I wonder if I got a second, or is this their acceptable board. I just bought as a gift, and it's entirely off center, many of the boards are turned the wrong direction for long term stability especially with end grain wood.. So what happens when it's not constructed more carefully is that you get cracking a year later, I contacted them, on my first purchase, a $600.00 board when it cracked, and they were zero help. Why not just put it up front that your boards might crack due to the nature of wood, and if it happens, and if it does, here's how to fix it. or even better yet, include a crack repair KIT WITH THE EPOXY, just incase it happens after the warrantee period. I see so many complaints about this and their boards, it seems that a more proactive approach would be good for their business, yes I understand that some people might not take care of their boards and that they don't want to deal with that hassle, but mine cracked after extremely careful use, I found a fix, it wasn't that difficult and in the 4 years Later my board is still perfect, no thanks to Boose Brothers!!!! ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Good, really good, but at this price they need to do better.
Size: 18" x 18" x 2.25" Style: Block Color: Maple
It is exactly what they said. The issue is that there is a slight warp to the board. I mean, I understand, but I paid $250 for this board. At that price, and with the name brand, I expect it to be perfect, at least at the level that I can instantly notice. Fixed with a towel. The warping was light. Not worth the hassle of returning and waiting for a replacement that may or may not have the same issue. Again, for those of you thinking that it is a small issue, I agree. At this price, I should not have had an issue though. If they set it on a flat surface and it wobbles, it should not be shipped to a customer. I paid premium pricing for a premium brand and got a decent product. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars 1 Year Later
Size: 12" x 12" x 3" Style: Block Color: Walnut
Decided to wait a year to write a review due to people complaining about wood cracking and warping. After first buying it in October of 2020, I read some review advise to apply oil seven times (allowing to dry overnight between each application), then applying Board Cream once. Since then, I apply Mystery Oil once every few months. I’m really pleased with the product: it looks great, it ages well, it doesn’t show much scoring despite how much I’ve used it. Note: when cutting wet fruit and vegetables, I always dry it after I’m done with food prep, so the water doesn’t sit. A year later, the block is in great shape! No cracking or warping. It has its own unique character and I feel like we have an heirloom product. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars 18x18 Maple End Grain packaging and first time care
Size: 18" x 18" x 2.25" Style: Block Color: Maple
*As this is a gift for someone else, I just wanted to share a photo of the packaging when I opened it. The box itself was of low quality but there are fitted corner pads and the cutting board itself is wrapped in plastic. One other thing, it comes with a small packet of Board Cream (but NOT the oil). My advice would be to take it out of the plastic and let the board adjust to the conditions of wherever you plan to use it over night. They recommend oiling the board once a month (depending on your specific variables). I would add that after letting the board adjust to the room overnight, inspect it for any cracks, etc. If all is well, and this is my recommendation only, oil the board as directed and let sit overnight on night 2 of receiving it. I hope this helps! ... show more

Solid and heavy, beautiful block of wood. I don't have any doubt that this will last a lifetime. Only nitpick I have is that there is couple of void spots that have been filled in with some grey filler on the top side. The bottom was clean. I know it is reversible, but.. Wished that before they burned in the logo, make sure the cleaner side is the top. ... show more

I use my cutting block almost everyday for something. I’ve wanted one for a long time so when I moved into my new home I bought it as a housewarming gift to myself. The only thing is I cut up onions and I just can’t get that smell off the block. I’ve tried everything I know and read to do but I can still smell those onions. Drives me nuts. ... show more
