Not made of silicone, but still very soft, pliable, and durable. I believe it's made of PVC and very similar to what Aquarium Co-Op sells. It's where I normally purchase my fish room needs, but I needed this tubing ASAP. It's matte black, dry with no coating, and does not smell of any odor. I've used it on stainless steel and plastic fittings with no issues of slippage. I've had that problem with stiffer tubing but solved it by using sandpaper on the ends of the fittings. I've also slipped it onto fittings larger than 3/16" by simply dipping the tubbing end into some very hot water for 20 seconds or so, making it stretch onto larger fittings. This is a great addition to my fish room and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with this product unless you prefer the old-school thicker and stiffer type of tubing. ... show more

Purchased this item since it had everything I needed for replacing the air hoses in my two aquariums (had clear, but wanted black so it blended in with the black background). I really needed new suction cups, but the ones included only stay suctioned for less than 2 minutes - even on the outside of tank where the glass is clean. Hose is very thin and flexible, making suction cups necessary to keep the line in place once air is running through the stone. Hopefully it is durable, but time will tell. Check valves work fine once you blow in them to initially open them up. Flow control valve and connectors both work as intended. So far I like how how you get it does not appear that it will get brittle quickly like some of the clear brands that depending on climate will become brittle fast. I is one thing and I thin it has more to do with cheap Connectors. Sometimes it slides of the cheap short connections on air pumps. I tend to use the metal ribbed connectors and on a few of the single tanks that have the short smooth male ends I just take sand paper and rough them up a bit and the it works great. Repeat hose popping off inside tank at stone. And outside at check valve. Would not buy again, must be too soft. Replaced clear hoses with black for a better look, clear hose never popped off once

Wanted to hook up more sponge filters in tanks, but this smells strongly of black licorice, which I can't stand. Thought it was my imagination and set it aside, but it bothered me for 2 days, had to wrap it in plastic. I refuse to put anything that smelly in my thriving shrimp tank, they're sensitive to anything noxious. And wow this was noxious. I read so many reviews, never saw a word about stench. ... show more
