I have ordered a few different brands of these wooden foods that kids can cut. First off, the magnets are far better than the Velcro. The Velcro is often very hard for my 2 yr old grandson to cut. It’s even hard for me! The magnets are much easier and fit the pieces together better. The quality of this set is great, very cute, painted nicely and seems to be quality wood. I absolutely love this set! I bought these as a birthday gift for my 3 year old son. He has a 10 year old Melissa and Doug velcro set that belonged to my daughter and I wanted to get him something fresh and new. I picked this set because it has magnets instead of velcro and I liked the fact that there were unique pieces that you don’t normally see in sets like these, like dragon fruit and a leg of meat. The quality is beyond my expectations! I love the detail and the variety. The colors are beautiful and the magnets are strong and subtle. I love that the grapes hang and pull off just like the real thing! My son’s favorite is the tomato. He carries it around everywhere. As an added bonus, everything came in a sturdy bucket with a handle for easy storage and all the pieces came individually wrapped. He also received a small set of velcro food from his grandparents, that was sold by a different company and I’m so happy I went with this particular set. The velcro isn’t nearly as strong as the magnets and all the pieces aren’t as detailed. I added two photos comparing the kiwi and the watermelon of the different sets. The only piece I threw away were the grapes because it’s too frustrating to keep them together. Otherwise, it’s a fabulous set with high quality play food. The media could not be loaded. I found these to be great quality for the price, the paint has a couple of minor flaws, but I’ve yet to find a painted wooden toy that doesn’t. They are sturdy, the magnets are strong enough to hold together but weak enough that the cut easily, and the detail is good enough that we aren’t left wondering what a handful of the foods are. We also have some M&D wooden food and, while this food is smaller, the quality is good. I didn’t notice any bad smells either. The only thing I would change is maybe add some chicken to round out the proteins and I also would have preferred a basket to hold them in instead of the cardboard canister. To address some of the negatives reviews: The magnets definitely hold together unless you stick them backwards (N-N and S-S), I’ve attached pictures of the banana and grapes holding perfectly and also a video of me shaking the grapes and having them stay on. Maybe there are some quality control issues? Choking hazards: Maybe it depends on the kid, but these are all big enough that my children won’t be putting them in their mouth as it would be very uncomfortable. You know your child best so use your own judgement there Disproportionate size: Yep, they are smaller than real life food and watermelon is the same size as other foods that are obviously way smaller than in real life. But my kids hands are small, their play dishes are small, and they enjoy being able to add multiple “ingredients” to their meals, plus I don’t want to store 26 life size food things! Our M&D sets have realistically sized food and it makes it hard for them to use in their small pretend dishes and I can’t store nearly as many. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Got this set for my 18mo for her play kitchen as she’s really starting to get in to imaginative play. I searched for days and looked at so many play food sets but ultimately decided to go with this set over the cheaper plastic ones because i figured they would last longer. They are super cute and I love that they resemble real food. A few issues I’ve noticed; 2 days after opening, the magnet fell out of the kiwi half. Luckily we were able to find the tiny magnet and can put it back in but I’m not sure what will actually be able to hold it in now that it’s already come out once. I knew these would need to be used with supervision as my daughter is still on the young side for these but now I’m worried the magnets will fall out and we won’t notice because they’re so small. The magnets are almost too weak. Yes, they shouldn’t be too strong so children can cut/pull them apart but they are so weak it’s difficult to even keep the grapes on the vine. And even when you do get them on (one falls off as you put another on), one sudden move and they all fall off. Kind of wish I would have went with a wooden set that has Velcro. Over all, it’s nice but not worth it at its current price point ($45.99). ... show more
