This pool is very sturdy, easy to set up, and is pretty nice all around. It looks great too. The sand filter pump that came with it seems to work well but could be a little more powerful. The number one issue is the ladder that comes with this pool. It is narrow, wobbly, and needs to have a top step platform to allow people to turn around on to go down the ladder like the ones that used to come with Intex pools a while back. Aftermarket ladders are really pricy but someone's gonna get hurt on this one eventually. ... show more

I was nervous to upgrade our 12x30 Intex pool to the larger one because it seemed like it would be way more maintenance, but I have zero regrets! We went with the 16x48 and it was larger than I was expecting. We do have a smaller yard, so I think the size perception would vary depending on the yard size you're putting it in. I would've gone with the 14x42 but we wanted the extra depth that this one had. Assembly and setup of the actual pool was the easy part, the more time consuming part was leveling our ground which took a few days. We rented a sod remover, then leveled the ground using sand to fill in. Based on some youtube videos we watched, we used foam insulation board as a base instead of using the ground cover it came with. This of course added time and money to the setup, but in the end was well worth it. The floor of the pool now feels comfortable and smooth with no rocks or anything poking through, and I think it actually helps keep the water warmer too. Once the ground was all ready, the pool went up and filled up quite fast. We used two hoses to fill and it took about 8 hours to fill completely. Filter works great as long as you routinely backwash it as you're supposed to. Water maintenance is basically the same as our smaller pool, chlorine and baking soda and it's been crystal clear all summer. We finished the border of the pool with river rock and belgian blocks, added LED lights all around for nighttime ambiance. My only gripe about the set is the ladder it came with, which we will replace with a better one next summer. The ladder is fine for kids, but a bit terrifying for larger adults as it wobbles and is very steep climbing out of. The pool is very solid too, it would take a lot to tip it. Overall, we've enjoyed this pool all summer, and look forward to using it for summers to come! ... show more

2nd season with my 16” round Intex pool. First, I live in the Las Vegas valley, so wintering the pool wasn’t an issue. Last October, I just left it full, covered it with a quality winter cover (with inflatable pillow underneath), and left the filter pump running for a few hours each night. It’s a salt water pool, so I also left my separate Intex salt water chlorine generator running for an hour. This may not have been necessary because there was no sunlight hitting the water to burn off the chlorine. Anyway, when I took the cover off for the first time a week ago after being covered for more than 6 months, the water was sparkling clean with only a little blown in dust on the bottom. The water chemistry was also very close to perfect. Not an algae pond, so I’m a happy camper. Now, as to the pool kit itself and my initial installation, what’s included needs some tweaks. First, as noted in many other reviews, the pool filter supplied in the kit is barely adequate. Having read this, and knowing I was going to be adding a salt chlorine generator (which reduces the water flow rate), I opted not to install the sand filter that came with the kit, and paid $250 for a larger filter. I was able to recover half this cost by selling the filter which came with the set which was brand new. Second, the pool needs a decent skimmer. While a skimmer will help remove bugs and some leaf debris before they settle to the bottom, more importantly, it provides you with a much improved way of attaching a pool vacuum hose. I’m not talking about the simple hang-on-the-wall skimmer made by Intex, but an actual “through the wall” skimmer such as those made by Hayward for above ground pools. At first, the thought of cutting a hole in the side of a brand new soft sided pool wall seemed frightening. However, there are dozens of YouTube videos showing how it’s done, all praising the results. You’ll just have to rig some extra plumbing. Check it out. Next, the supplied pool ladder is a joke. It works, but we’re in our 70’s, and we don’t want to see our life flash before our eyes each time we use it. So, plan on buying a better pool ladder. Last, a comment about the importance of the pool needing a firm, level base to be installed on. The majority of the poor reviews seem related to leaks in the liner (which is a bummer that you can’t prepare for ahead of time), and apparent problems caused by the pool foundation not being level, or remaining firm when it gets water logged. This is especially true for rectangular above ground pools, with round pools being more forgiving in this regard. ... show more
