  • Great power adapter for Beaglebone Black
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
I purchased this adapter after receiving a Beaglebone Black credit card-sized computer as a present, since the BBB's don't come with one. It is the appropriate voltage and connector size for it if you want to operate one without connecting it to the USB port of the computer. Since this hadn't been vetted (as far as I knew) by anyone for the BBB's I wanted to do some testing before connecting it to my board. For a test setup I used high wattage resistors to draw various loads while measuring the output voltage with a digital multimeter. My first observation is that there is a lag time (1 -2 secs.) before the voltage comes up. I am viewing this as a positive, since it allows the regulating / switching components to stabilize before applying power to the output (I didn't look at it on an oscilloscope... but the meter never displayed a reading above the voltage it regulated at). And this does appear to be a high-efficiency switching supply since it never really became warm under load. Moving on the the measurements, my observations were: No load ----5.23V dc with ~2mV of ripple ~.5 A ----5.20V dc with < 1mV of ripple (can't measure less than 1mV ac on my meter) ~1 A ----5.10V dc with < 1mV of ripple ~1.7A ----5.00V dc with < 1 mV of ripple Since the BBB uses 5 volts only as a source to regulate down to lower voltages, the amount of regulation is way more than adequate. I did not test it all the way up to 2 amps since it is not a good idea to operate a supply all the way at its upper limit. Based on the measurements I took, I would feel confident that it would still be at least 4.9 V at that load. If I really wanted to use it right at 2 amps (its maximum rated capacity) I would make that measurement first, however. So far, I have used it for several hours straight on my BBB without a hiccup. I had tested another wall wart that I had on hand that was rated at 5V and 2 amps, and found that its output drooped to less than 4 V at only 1 amp. That is what prompted my purchase of this one. In my opinion, this supply is about as good as it gets for a wall wart. You are going to get some amount of voltage drop over the long cord since the voltage regulation takes place back inside of the supply body. Only thing I would change is I would have liked for the cord to be the kind that is more flexible with a thicker, round sheath. The cord in the picture seems to depict that, but the actual cord is a kind of thin zip-cord. I would have paid 50 cents or a buck more for that. So a little bit of caution might be in order if you are disconnecting / reconnecting this supply a lot and winding it up in between. Try to keep it as straight and smooth as possible (smooth meaning don't let it get twisted up... try to do this anyway with any wall wart supply), and it will probably last as long as whatever you are powering will last. (In other words, try to wind the cord in a loop, don't just ball it up.) ... show more

  • Great Product but Connector was too big
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
I bought this adapter because my old adapter quit working so my IP camera had no power. Even though it takes 5 volts to power the camera and this new adapter was also 5 volts and same wattage I just figured the new plug-in would be the same diameter but the new adapter's plug-in was oversized so I could not use it. I had to splice the plug-in from the old adapter into the new adapter's power cord to get it to work. That is what I get for assuming all 5 volt adapters used the same size plug-in. ... show more

  • Voltage dropped and no longer powered my device, after a few months

  • Great replacement DC adapter...
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
I purchased one of these adapters to use as a replacement for a Monoprice VGA-to-HDMI convertor (model: HDC-VAH) as the one that came with the unit only lasted for five uses. I realize these types of DC adapters are usually of cheap quality, and have unknown life expectancies, so I plan on purchasing another of these to have as a spare. The new adapter has been used for two weeks now and it seems to be working wonderfully. (Be forewarned that the picture on Amazon.com at the time of this writing does not accurately depict the adapter. I was hoping that the adapter would not block any receptacles on a typical power strip. Sadly this unit covers two receptacles.) Update 12/1/14: This power supply is UL listed. (I forgot to state that in my original review.) Also, after several months of use it is still working great! I haven't had to use my "back up" one yet. ... show more

  • Very handy portable speaker add-on
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
Bought this as an add-on for the Pyle Wireless Portable Speaker Soundbox. It allows me to keep the speaker charged up and in use by the couch instead of having to use the charging base/transmitter that has to stay across the room by the TV. A must-have if your family gets a lot of use out of this speaker. ... show more

  • Good for about 1.25 years.
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
Worked find for 15 months, then the device it was powering started to act flaky. Replacing the wall wart solved the problem. The price is low enough that I will give it three stars. If it lasted longer, I would give it more.

  • Replacement
Size: 4.9 Foot (Pack of 1)
I purchased these units as replacements for blocks that went out for some large face clocks that my family and I love. They have lasted well longer than the ones that came with the clocks and saved me from having to purchase all new clocks for more money. All I needed to do was modify the plug by cutting the old one from the original block and attach it to the new ones. If you are handy its easy. I recommend these products. ... show more
