  • Great Robotic Vacuum
Color: Black
Just love this vacuum. I bought it in October 2020 and 3 years later it works great. Sucked up hair off tile and vinyl plank floor after 3 dog like it was nothing. However I found it took longer and longer to clean my kitchen and hallway. Discovered it was cleaning over and over the same areas and I became frustrated and stopped using it for a while. Found a YouTube video on how to clean the wheel sensor and now it runs great. Just need to check that every now and then if the vacuum starts to act erratically. ... show more

  • The A9 is pretty good, with a couple tweaks
Color: Black
I've had robot vacuums since Roomba came out. I had the old, dumb bounce around ones and kept them going until I couldn't any longer. When I saw the A9 I was excited as the price was right and it seems to fit what I need. I will say there are a couple of quirks that you need to get used to and I'm unsure as to why some of these exist. For starters, the brush assembly cover (yellow bottom plate) can come off easily from the A9 just doing its thing. This is a stupid design flaw but easily fixable. Take the plate off and bend the clips out a bit more. When you put it back on, you'll really hear it snap into place. Problem solved, as for the first 2 days I was perplexed as to why it kept coming off. It's been 3 weeks since I did my tweak and have yet for the plate to come off while running. It only comes off when I take it off to clean the roller brush. For anyone who hasn't had a robot vacuum before, wires are not your friend period. This includes the power cord for the base station. I haven't had any issues but I see this come up on almost every robot vacuum cleaner. It should be a simple software fix as to when it's near the base station, it should slow the side brushes not to disturb them. I have mine under a dresser and the wires are raised and velcroed above the floor so there isn't any way for the A9 to snag them. The one thing I will say is I'm confused by the mapping feature. Yes, the A9 will "see" things and not run full force into them, but it also gets stupid and can't find the base station right away or get out of a tricky situation. I've owned Roomba, eufy, and now the Life A9. They all have this problem. I can't understand why it's so hard to have a simple algorithm that says if you can't go back to home base. It knows where it started it's journey and has my house layout mapped out. It's only happened one time but I watched it blow right past the base station and head into the kitchen trying to dock on the opposing side of the wall that the base station sits along. The second issue with the mapping is I've watched the A9 get stuck and spend way to much effort to get out of a weird spot rather than rely on the smart mapping. It's mapped the house enough that it should utilize this rather than not learn from it at all. Other than sneakily getting my house layout, it doesn't seem to rely on any of this data for cleaning. So far almost a month in, I've had no charging issues. I will admit that Alexa integration could be a bit more complex. Rather than just Off/On I'd like the ability to switch cleaning modes rather than utilize the app or remote. If you keep running it daily and clean it after each run, you shouldn't get a clog. I was used to letting my Roomba go 2 days before I would clean the bin. This bin is a bit smaller and fills up quicker, better filter or not, but more importantly, the clog seems to happen on the unit's port into the bin, not the bin itself. If I didn't clean the filter and let it run a second time I would find an almost empty filter but then an enormous amount of dog hair and dirt clogging the exit port where the bin attaches. Since making sure I clean it every time, I've not run into the clogging. Lastly, the voice on this A9 is bizarre. The female voice says: Starting Otal clean. I think she's mean Total Clean or Ulta Clean but I'm not sure. It runs and I don't plan on switching modes, and you can turn the voice off, but that's the only quirk I've found w/ the voice so far. It's a good sub-$200 robot vacuum but with a few software tweaks, and a little bit better quality assurance, iLife engineers, I'm here reach out, beta test with me!!!! I think it could be a very great Roomba competitor. ... show more

  • Okay low end robot vac
Color: Black
I purchased an iLife V5s a few years ago as my starter robot vac to see if I would like it and I loved it! After having it for a few years, I wanted something with more features that were important to me so I purchased a newer model. Here are my notes: Pros The new A9 vac which we named Zoe (the V5s was Zac) is more efficient that her older brother due to the mapping technology. Zac would use the entire 120mins to clean our 2 bdrm apt, whereas Zoe can do it in about 40-50 mins. Zoe is quieter than Zac. Zoe's dust bin is much larger than Zac's, but with the insert in the bin, it takes up quite a bit of that space. Zoe does not bump into the furniture as much as Zac did. Zoe has a daily programmable schedule. I can program her to run several days a week, whereas Zac either ran automatically 7 days a week or only when turned on manually. Cons Zoe sounds as if she has something caught in her that makes her run louder than usual and I can't find it. Zoe's zig zag lines are not straight on the lines of the apartment so she misses areas and doesn't go back to get them once she's passed them. Zoe stops before the entire apartment has been cleaned even though she should have a full battery charge. Sometimes after 15 or 20 mins. On average she runs about 30-40 mins. The brush bristles on the roller get hair and whatnot caught in them and therefore require cleaning. If Zoe is stopped during a cleaning cycle, the app map will start a new cycle so you may not get a full cleaning. The app was a little hard to set up, and took me several attempts, but once I figured it out it has worked fine. I tried to set it up on a second device, but haven't fully done that yet. Because of the mapping technology, I can't hide Zoe's charging base under my chair as I did with Zac. She needs to see the room when the power comes on and the chair would block that feature. The remote controls to change Zoe's direction do not work while she is running on the timed schedule. So if I notice she missed something, I can't redirect her to get it during the cycle. Overall, Zoe pretty much gets the job done like Zac, but more efficiently. She's not perfect, but we'll keep her. I wanted to give 3.5 stars but that’s not an option. Get the service plan. We learned that when Zac started acting weird after about 2 years that his battery needed changing. It's not something that could be done at home without completely taking the whole vacuum apart and there was no information on how to change the battery or what to replace it with. Update 1/3/21 - I found the piece that got sucked up and was making the clicking sound. Once that came out, the volume was normal and tolerable. con: the vac only works if connected to WiFi. Zoe disconnected somehow and now I can’t get her back online and can’t run her manually from the remote or the start button on the unit. There is no info in the user manual provided about what to do if it goes offline and the app is useless as well. She eventually reconnected to the WiFi, but I don’t know how. Con: Also I forgot mention that she randomly comes off the charger and repositions herself back on it for no apparent reason. It’s a little disconcerting when it happens and you’re not expecting it. Manufacturer tip: add an alert for when the dustbin is full. Update 8/7/21 - if I had brought this device first I would have never gotten another robot vac. It’s not reliable. I don’t know if it is the WiFi component or overall manufacturing but I’m not happy with Zoe. I love her older brother Zac so much that I’m sorry I gave him away for this piece of junk. I come home and it hasn’t run, or it dies in the floor somewhere. It goes off line and I have to play with it to get it back online, including powering it directly from the cord instead of charging it on the base. Problem with that is it can’t ran if it’s attached to the power cord. I don’t recommend this particular model but the first one I got (V5s) was a keeper, except it didn’t keep it for this one! ... show more
