  • Totally effective

I purchased this as I have a Microsoft Surface Book equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti display adapter. I do a good deal of video recording and editing. I burned out my last tablet and my current one would constantly kick up the fan and would sometimes glitch out as the internal fans on these tablets are simply junk. After a good deal of research, I settled on this. To my absolute surprise, just using this without even having the fan turned on, resolved my overheating issues. It was a miracle. I think it was because of the open circulation space below the device does a good job dissipating the heat by itself. I do usually leave the fan on, turned up about 25%. At that level it is not very noisy and provides a good deal of air flow. I actually like the noise a little bit as it breaks up the deafening silence of my office without distracting me with music or interfering with phone conversations. I also like the LED lighting. It's cool and adds some personality to my workspace. This was definitely worth the purchase and my only regret was not having gotten this earlier. It may have saved my first Surface Book. This will be a standing recommendation for my clients who routinely use Laptops as desktop computers. Update: 5/2/2024 - Still loving this purchase and wishing I would have bought it long before. The fan makes some noise but not bad at 25%. As mentioned above I actually welcome than fan noise at that level. Turned all the way up it is definitely noisy. But I rarely use this setting and when I do it is for good reason such as heavy video editing that is putting a significant load on my Surfacebook. I'd rather deal with the noise and know that my expensive Surfacebook is not burning up. Again, it's rare that I ever crank it up that high. I really like the lights on this too. I change them on a daily basis just to mix things up a bit and add a little variety to a desk that doesn't change much. I highly recommend this device. Highly effective. ... show more

  • This works.

Before I get into the meat of my review, I want to say that if you have no vents on the bottom of your laptop, you should probably save your cash and not buy this. I know it says to just not use the foam, but no. Seriously. You will not get a benefit worthy of the spend without bottom vents. Its a good fan, but its still just a fan and it won't magically blow through a sealed case. If you do have bottom vents? Read on... This thing works. I have to admit I was certain I was going to regret buying this. But my temps are down 10-20C depending on what I'm doing. And this is at less than half fan speed. I'm seeing the bigger reduction on things that normally run hot like games. But I'm also getting a reduction on general low temp activity. Cooling I give this an A++. It honestly just works. I have a Vector pro that will run hot enough to make the keyboard too hot to touch (if I let it.) I have tried other pads and they either do nothing or make it actually hotter. Noise? Hmmmm if you go full speed, this thing is loud. It is. No way to sugar coat it. I mostly run it at about a little bit under 1/3ish and you can hear it. But it's not loud. It's like a "do you hear something? what is that?!" level of sound. Meaning it could still be annoying for some? But not loud. I also think if you need to run this at 100% you need more than a cooling pad. But even at full bore sound, you can manage with headphones. The only big negative with sound for me is there is a bit of an aggravating whine sound at the lower rpms. Because it is controlled with a wheel, it is a slight pain to dial that out. Not a big pain, but its a thing. Lighting? For me who cares. I honestly don't. I had some bad moments trying to get the disco lightshow to go away. (Zero instructions, more on that later) But I eventually found out how to quit the disco and get a color I like. Stability and build quality. My laptop is pretty heavy. It is not even almost moving around on this pad. This thing is sturdy. The pad itself does not slide around and the laptop does not move around on the pad. Everything feels solid and secure. Before purchasing this, I read a 1 star review complaining that it was just a fan in a case with some foam. And yes that is what it is. But its a solid case, a great fan and the foam is what keeps the great fan cooling the machine instead of your desk/table. Maybe the complaint was with the usb hub? I'm not sure. That is another thing I don't care about. If the usb hub part is important to you, read more reviews for that. I personally do not even use all the usb ports on my laptop so I did not even connect the hub part. Ergonomics and adjustments. This is the one area where I will say its a bit weird. Not bad, but a little weird. And its mainly due to the super sturdy braces at the bottom that hold your laptop in place. Even if you lower them to the minimum to fit your machine they still stick upward. Depending on where you rest your hands it can be slightly annoying. Also because of the design of the pad your choices for raising the back are raised, higher, and several increments of nobody will ever do that. Luckily both raised and higher are fine. My one and only real complaint on this is the utter lack of documentation. There is noooooooooooooooone. They do telegraph what foams to use. (important) But omg you are on your own how to work the lights. Godspeed! One thing to look out for.... Look at where your vents are on your laptop. Mine are toward the center/back. That meant moving the little braces at the bottom down one notch, to move the laptop down to get the fan under the vents. There are three positions for the braces. It should cover virtually any bottom vent layout, but look at it and move the braces to position the vents where the fan will work. If you have temp issues with your laptop I highly recommend this product. It works. ... show more

  • This cooler actually cools!
Color: V1(Hub)
I got a six fan cooler, which did not work. My laptop has a GTX-2080 GPU, and I7 CPU; I use it for gaming a lot. Using the MSI fan app, with the 6 fan, my CPU was pegged at 100c, GPU at 95c. If I used it for 30 minutes, the game began to stutter as the CPU overheated, and reacted by slowing. This cooler is very different. NOTE: it can be loud. At lower settings, it is barely noticeable. I use it at about half power. At that level, I can hear it clearly, but it's ok. At high power (which I don't often use) it is loud. The 6 fan (I've had a couple), all seem to cool inadequately. This fan WORKS. Part, I think, is the sealing foam. I use it as it was designed (no cutting foam or adding anything); some air gets out around the sides of the laptop. Most seems to get forced thru the computer. The unit, during gaming, now shows the CPU at about 90c, the GPU at about 75 - 80c. That is a real improvement. If the room is warm, after an hour, I turn the fan up and let it run for 5 minutes; cools things down. I am happy. One other note; this fan is no "plug into USB port" unit. It has its own power cord and transformer. This is the real thing. It's not fancy, it just WORKS. ... show more
