  • superhandy man
My hubby is an engineer, I call him my super handyman. He likes to jump on my account because I have the amazon membership so he gets the free shipping. Grins, men. He will spend hours looking for items he needs. All the items he buys in the end work out great.

  • Easy die change. Makes perfect crimps.
This crimper has the look and feel of a high-quality tool. The handles fit comfortably in hand, and are just the right length to provide good leverage when crimping. The dies are precisely machined and nicely polished. When changing, they slide in and out of the crimper easily. I test crimped using all six dies. The ratcheting mechanism operated smoothly, and the crimps were flawless. My only complaint is with how the dies are stored in the case. Removing a die from one of the mesh pockets can be cumbersome. The pocket opening is small, and the dies sometimes get caught in the mesh. Also, because all the dies look similar through the mesh, I often have to fumble through removing multiple sets just to find the one I need. One die from each set has a sketch of the matching connector embossed on it (see attached photos). This helps, but most of the time, I find myself having to match the part number on the die to a diagram in the user instruction, which is a big pain. I think it would help a great deal if the manufacturer provided clearly labeled, molded slots in the storage case for each die set. ... show more

  • good quality
The quality is better than I expected. The down side is that the jaws are a little hard to remove. Better than my old ones.

  • Kind of shocked with how nice this crimper set is!
This is a superb, professional quality, ratchet wire crimper set. Much, much higher quality than I was expecting. The case it is all stored in is probably the lowest quality part of the kit- although it is not bad by any means. Just not up to the super high quality level of the cimper and various dies. The wire strippers they included are your run of the mill prosumer type wire strippers- but they work very well and are tight and solid. But it's the crimper and the dies that REALLY shine. The crimper feels very solid in hand and has a very nice handle material. They have some heft to them and work flawlessly. No slop or looseness whatsoever. The dies/jaws slide in and out easily (once you read the manual and understand how they are inserted). They lock in to place and won't fall out on their own. Also, no tools needs to swap out the dies. You just grab them a certain way and pull them out. The dies themselves appear to be machined tool steel and each are laser etched (yes, laser etched) with the size and type. The end of each even has a laser etched image of the connector type it is meant to work with. Superb! I also noticed, on the die I used to crimp a heat shrink butt connector, the color code on the die perfectly matched the color code on my set of heat shrink connectors. Red, Yellow, and Blue. If you want professional quality crimps - and dies to make pretty much every type of crimp available, you need this kit. I know this is a tool that is going to last a lifetime for me. The carrying case will wear out long before the crimper and dies do. ... show more

  • One good tool replaces six different average crimpers. Or a random collection of plyers.
I'm at the DIY end of the (more or less competent) electrician spectrum. This tool is going to make it so much easier to properly crimp my splices and terminal connectors. The inexpensive crimpers I have are not that much better than resorting to hope and a plyer. This by comparison is a revelation in good design and multiple function. No tools required for changing the jaw set. The slowest step is fishing the required components from their snug net pouch, which is a nice storage system, but potentially aggravating. A somewhat larger case with everything on the same level might be better. Just saying... Who doesn't already have at least two wire strippers? That's room in the case for recesses to hold the jaw sets, more or less. The pictorial instructions and somewhat cryptic captions are adequate but assume a level of familiarity with ratchet tools that not everyone possesses. For example, the first thing I looked for was the ratchet release latch. Simply squeezing the handles was not my first thought. Nor was opening the handles fully the expected requirement to begin closing the jaws. Live and learn: The "Adjust knob for crimping force," has nothing to do with changing the ratchet's leverage. It is a wear point that can be renewed by removing and rotating after some play has developed. Nice design feature! Explained on the last page of the instructions. "Jaws can be switched to the opposite side . . . for right- or left-hand operation." This is accomplished by installing the jaw set "upside down," which is just an easier way to think about this procedure. There you have it. When there is nothing bad to say about the tool, you can almost always find fault in the case and the manual. The tool and its attachments are well made and seem sturdy. Probably what you are paying extra for are the jaw sets, which are quite beautiful to contemplate. Looks and feels like a pro quality tool. Recommended! ... show more

  • Versatile and easy to use
This is a very nice kit that should cover most of your crimping needs. The kit comes with a card that lets you know what each die is made to crimp along with the sizes it will crimp. The dies are etched and easy to read. The crimper and the strippers feel good in the hand they feel like a quality product when in use. I used these to crimp some female spades on some 8 gauge speaker wires and the crimp was good. I also used the strippers to strip some 12 gauge and it worked as expected. Deducting 1 star for the case. The case works great but with prolonged use the main hinge point will fail over time. I would prefer to spend a couple extra dollars to own a kit that has a case that will not fail over time if used regularly. Overall I am happy with this kit and since this will only be used at home and not at work I think I’ll get 5 years out of it before I have to Velcro the case to keep it closed. Zero regrets. ... show more
