I have tried nearly all times of games that I have available on this console and I haven't had any issues. It is good that is basically have an upscaler installed in it so I can play retro games on a HD TV.

We got a lot of playability out of this already and we love it. A minor note for prospective buyers is that the pins may be close together and stiff at first when you start putting in cartridges, but it's an easy fix. You just may have to finagle it or use a credit card to separate the pins a bit. For those who play super famicon, those can fit in the super NES spot and do work ... show more

    • Fun and Innovative!
I've had my Retron 5 for a week now and it works great! I will recommend to be mindful of the "death grip" and take care when inserting and removing cartridges. If I do have any issues in the future I'm sure the slots can be easily replaced. When it comes to third party emulation gaming, I don't expect to fully not have to put in some effort in the long run. Overall I am very pleased with the product, the controllers, and the functionality. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in an all-in-one console that reads original game cartridges, has plenty of controller options, and some really nice game settings features.     • Does NOT work with everdrives
I bought this specifically to use with everdrives and it didn't work. I returned the product and the first product.I got in the mail was faulty Anyway. This device never worked for me with any game. I was completely unsatisfied.

    • Good, but not perfect
As a kid, I always wanted a Gameboy Player. I learned about the Retron consoles through a collector and always wanted to try it out. It's solid, but not perfect. The notes I recalled prior to purchase was the sound card being a noticeable difference depending on the system you used. NES for example will sound off. I only used it for GBA stuff, so I couldn't hear a difference. I did have some issues setting it up when I first started and just a few issues figuring stuff out, but I did get there. I had a couple moments of laggy mess when playing through Metroid Fusion, so playing it on official hardware will always be superior. This is a present for my sister, I still plan on getting on own one day, but it was definitely cool to try out and experience. It might be a bit obsolete now with technology advancing and things like Nintendo Switch Online, but I still think it's worth it if you have a niche 3rd party game that you know wont be played elsewhere, or if you're just a collector. ... show more

    • Good option for playing classic game carts
I was torn between getting this or the (much more expensive) Polymega, and decided to get this for now. Overall, it's a good option for playing original NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, GBC, and GB cartridges. The wired controller is actually pretty nice, although the wireless one is terrible (although it's more comfortable to hold than one might assume just by looking at it). If you don't have a NES/SNES/Genesis/GBA laying around, don't want to spend a ridiculous amount on a secondhand one, and you want to be able to play the games for those systems from the original carts, this is a solid option. ... show more

I was looking for device to play my GB, GBC and GBA carts. This device plays all my regular Game cartridges plus some GBA multigame carts like Mega Drive collection on GBA Cart. Also does good on Nes, Super Nes and Gens Cart. No software update needed. Had it for over 2 years still works great.

    • This thing is awesome
This thing is awesome. It's super convenient to be able to play cartridges from so many different systems with one machine. I play on one of my PC monitors, and if there is lag it's barely noticeable. I considered getting a Retron 5 for a long time, and the Hyper Beach colors finally convinced me to get one. One thing that sort of sucks is that the included Scout controller arrived broken. The pins inside the connector were broken and rattling around loose inside the connector. I was planning on using my Switch Pro controller, anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. It'll sort of suck if someone comes over to play that doesn't have their own controller, though. I contacted support, and they said they were currently out of Hyper Beach Scout controllers. They offered to send me a different color, but I told them I'll wait till they get more Hyper Beach ones. The color scheme is awesome tbh. My Switch Pro controller with a wireless adapter works great. ... show more
