  • Quieter than many bags, good loft, short means short.
Color: Blue Size: Short
Bought this bag in short for my 6 year old, figuring it'll last a long time. She slept in it three nights in a row, so that's a win. I've slept in it once to try it out. I'm 5'10" and it's too short for me. Probably okay for those 5'6" and under. It's cozy, and the nylon isn't super noisy like some bags. I don't like the zipper, which stops before the feet - good for warmth, bad for venting if you get too hot. The zipper also is super fiddly to restart when you accidentally unzip it all the way in the dark while half asleep. That's the negative bits. We got the 0 degree bag - haven't tried it below freezing yet (it's summer), but it seems well insulated and snugs up over the shoulders. The hood portion was a no go for me (too warm and I am too tall), but it should be great for my kid for the next 9 years or so. Super affordable and seems reasonably well made. Only thing I really don't like is the zipper, but it's not my bag, and the kid doesn't know any different! ... show more

  • Arctic campout...warm!
Color: Black Size: Long
This is fantastic-did a winter camp in NM in Feb...got to 8 degrees f (really) and this bag kept me warm. I did have a liner in it with all my clothes on, but it worked well...too warm above about 50 though-you will sweat. I'll take it to CO this summer for a Maroon Bells hike above 12,5. It's light enough and warm enough. ... show more

  • Excellent Bag for the Price
Color: Blue Size: Long
Quick Review: Huge Fan of this Bag. For the price it is outstanding, would recommend a down wash after purchase to make it a bit more waterproof. Full Review: I love backpacking in the summer, and was looking to try to get into more winter camping/backpacking. I purchased this for winter camping in near zero or below Zero temps(Duluth, MN). I did my first test on a three day backing trip in Northern Minnesota along the Superior Hiking Trail, overnight temp the first night was between +4 and -2 Fahrenheit, second night was between 0 and -8 Fahrenheit. For sleeping I was using the following gear: Outdoor Research Alpine Bivy - Tent Hyke & Byke 0 Degree Down Bag Alps Mountaineering MicroFiber Sleeping Bag Liner Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sleeping Pad - Closed Cell Base (R 2.6) REI Cirrus Insulated Air Pad - Inflatable Pad Between Base Pad and Bag (R 2.6) I knew it was going to be getting below Zero both nights, so I was also wearing some R4 long underwear, and wool socks inside the bag. I was also using the Bag liner to add some extra warmth. Overall, the bag performed beautifully! I was quite warm the first night, and actually didn't full zip the bag inside the Bivy. The second night was much windier and a bit colder, so I had the bag fully zipped and the hood cinched up tight(great feature of the bag BTW). Both nights I was comfortable enough to sleep through the night without any issues. Being inside a Bivy, there was a LOT of condensation(ice) in the morning, and the outside of the bag did get a little bit wet, but it dried well under little bit of sun curing the day. I am definitely going to do a down wash treatment on the bag to make a bit more waterproof in the future, though this was not enough of an issue to deter me from using it. If going right to that zero mark and below zero at all, I would definitely recommend a bag liner to add some extra warmth. I slept outside with this in about +5 degree weather(with no liner/long underwear), and was comfortable enough to sleep, but definitely missed the extra liner warmth when I woke up. I would not recommend going to far below zero for safety unless you are really confident in what you are doing. I did have some issues compressing the bag into the Stuff Sac provided, and was able to do it, but it was quite difficult to get it packed all the way in. The second night I used a Sea-to-Summit Compression Sac and it was much easier, so you may want to consider a different stuff sac than the one provided. The sea-to-summit sac was longer and made it easier to pack everything down, and with the compression straps I could get it to the same size as the included bag. Overall: I loved the bag, and for the price point it cannot be beat. I will definitely be looking at more Hyke & Byke bags in the future. ... show more

  • Kozy Warm Bag for cold weather
This is very very good down bag for the $$ , We went scout snow cave camping. Temps were in low teens at 2000 ft elevation near Mt Hood. My Son slept in this bag, inside of a US Military Gortex Bivy with a Klymit Airpad with Mylar reflective surface Sandwiched Between bag and Bivy. We replaced the original Military Black Sleeping bag with the Hyke & Byke Snowmass 0. He slept on the Snow and ice directly with this gear. He was warm and comfortable thru the night. The bag warmed up quickly and the Snoring Commenced. as discussed else wheres the zipper is a weak point. The Nylon that is used for Lining the Zipper path is to light weight and 1/2" to narrow. This allows the zipper to Pull the bag nylon into the zipper as it is being pulled closed, thus jamming, The material is fairly tough but will fail over time and cause a feather leak. The learned technique it to hold your index finger as a guide and separator for the bag material while zipping it up. This keeps the soft light material out of the zipper path a heavier wider material to line the Zipper path would remedy this trouble point. Other wise excellent warmth and air trapping comfort. Guards Red Color is terrific . ... show more
