My one cat loves to play in her water dish. Although I have nice mats for under the feeding dishes, she always seems to knock over the water dish and make a big mess! With this item, she can't knock the bowl over as the water & food dishes sit in a recessed area. She still splashes a bit, but the water is easily caught in the tray and doesn't get into the other dish spoiling all the dry food. I like this bowl set but I do think it’s more of a temporary solution or for travel use. Currently we do use it as an everyday bowl set but I will upgrade her food/water bowl set soon. We have a small breed 4 month old puppy so it works for now and it came quickly which is part of the reason I got it. Plus, it’s a cute hot pink color and I like the silicon mat. The mat is helpful for catching any kernels she drops while eating. However, the bowls are right at 1 cup, which is why I say it’s a temporary solution or for travel because it’s rather small. You have to be mindful when pouring in the food cause it fills right up to the top if you’re measuring out right at 1 cup of food. And with the water bowl, you have to constantly be mindful to keep filling it up with water throughout the day which is why I suggest using it, but upgrading to bigger bowls as soon as possible so you don’t forget to keep filling it up with water. Otherwise, it’s cute and it suits our needs for a little pup but I’ll keep it for travel once I get her a bigger set. I like it though! ... show more

Update: I took off another star because my dog did indeed take a bite out of the mat. 😂 In his defense, this particular type of silicone is literally the only material he likes to chew. But obviously I would like it to be a bit more durable. Original review👇 It’s very light weight but seems good quality. I love that the bowls fit snuggly in the mat so my dog can’t carry them off like he does with his other bowls. I am slightly worried that he will just pick up the whole mat, bowls and all and carry it around the house. It’s made of his favorite material to chew. 🤣 I haven’t witnessed it yet. Time will tell. I read other reviews that said the small size is very small and it is truly very small. It’s really well suited for a cat or a chihuahua sized dog. But I just needed it for a secondary set while my 15 lb terrier’s regular feeder set is being washed. It works for occasional use, but I would definitely get a bigger size for every day use. My dog is a super messy eater so a bigger mat that covers more surface area would be helpful, along with bigger bowls. ... show more
