I installed mine very quickly. Just had to drill 4 pilot holes in a stud. The piece of plastic on the inside fits inside my shotguns open chamber nicely and, when closed, the foam helps keep everything nice and snug. I really like how it springs open quickly and with force. Cons: I wish they would have updated their listing about one of the pieces. They have substituted the wristband with the RFID watch band tag. I bought the watch band separately and didn't have to. But, it fits great and works as a RFID every time. I was definitely not wearing their wristband everywhere. ... show more

I like this lock for its size and it lets me mount my gun inside my closet out of the way. The things I don’t like about it is if you tighten the bolts that hold it down too much it bends the box making it not able to latch. I had to make some spacers where the bolts go through so it didn’t bend. Also it doesn’t come with the wrist bands anymore, it has been updated to come with the wrist watch tag which I bought separately because I didn’t think it had it. ... show more

Installed in 15 minutes. So simple! Makes sure where ever you install it there is room for the door to swing open. Keep in mind any attachments you have on your shotgun too (shell carrier, optics, sling). Receiver mounted shell holder and optics will not work with this safe. If you have a stock mounted shell carrier it may not work if mounted to a flat wall (not enough clearance). Mount to a stud!!!! You get multiple options for access. 2 RFID stickers to stick to whatever you want, 1 RFID key tag and one bracelet or watch and attachment. You can connect up to 5 RFID items. You can use the keypad with a 4 to 6 digit code that you choose. Last is the manual barrel type keys. Connect to power or run on four (4) AA batteries. If you choose batteries, don't go with cheap dollar store no name batteries. Get good quality batteries! Yes there are cheaper types of safes. None offer all of these access options. The product appears solid and programming was simple. Putting batteries in it was easy as was the mounting. Unfortunately I had to send mine back and get a new one because after mounting I discovered the one I received had one code button deformed so the button was not working. They supply everything you need to install (except tools) however the supplied 1/4" x 2" hex head screws, in my opinion, are too small (I don't want someone yanking this thing off the wall). I will get 5/16" x 3" screws and change these little ones out. The other "gripe" is the bracelet. The chip is by the buckle instead of on the top of the wrist, making scanning a little awkward (weird arm position). They could've put the chip in the top of the bracelet so one could hold the back of the wrist up to the unit in a more ergonomic position. This element is a bit of a let-down. Overall I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a way to secure your shotgun (be sure to note this will only work with a side receiver style shotgun like Mossberg or Model 870, etc.). How do you have your rifle setup? If you're right handed, and run your home defense weapons with lights, you might run into a slight snag. I like having my weapons light (Streamlight Pro-Tac HL-X) mounted on the right side of my handguard since I use the C-grip. If that's how you have your rifle setup, then the Hornady safe doesn't have enough space between the wall and rifle, for a light to fit. In the image attached, I just have the safe sitting on top of a 3/8" piece of plywood, and you can see with the Odin O2 Lite 308 handguard (1.95" OD) and the Streamlight HL-X is barely touching the ground. I had to use a 1/2" plywood mounted between the safe and wall, for it to work with my rifle and light setup. Even with an AR15, I ran into the same problem with the light mounted on the right. The rifle only fits into the safe with the port side to the wall. When I mounted the safe and plywood to the wall, the 3 holes provided with lag bolts into the stud, wasn't enough. I drilled three more holes on the left (opening side) of the safe, and use drywall anchors which made if feel more secure. Drilled through the safe like butter. Because of where I have the safe mounted, there's no electrical outlet close enough. I just wish I can punch in my code, and have it open if I didn't have the RFID. Gets a little confusing when you have to go Center Button-Your Code-Center Button for it to open. Something I needed to get used to. This is not a $5,000 Sturdy 48" Rifle Safe weighing 1700lbs empty, anchored into your concrete garage floor. This safe is to keep kids and curious hands from getting access, not a burglar. I knew that before I purchased. The optics opening worked fine with the Aimpoint CompM4s red dot with flip caps. I just had to bring it back further on the upper rail, and 36yd Zero again. I gave it a generous 4 star, because it does what it's supposed to do once mounted modified - a quick access rifle safe, where you need it. ... show more
