  • You'd be hard pressed to find a better one at this price
I measured several types and values of capacitors, Electrolytics, Ceramics, Tantalums and this very inexpensive meter displayed their specified values within the rated range. You'd be hard pressed to find a better one at this price

  • Test your air conditioning, capacitor
I have a small set of apartments and a typical AC call is hundreds of dollars. It’s usually to replace a $12 condenser now I can test my own condensers and in second so I know if they need to be replaced. First time I used to save me more than $200.

  • Inexpensive, accurate, simple to use - what's not to like?
After receiving this item and using it to measure some fixed and variable capacitors I was using for some RF design - all in the picofarad (pf) ranges - I was amazed that it was as accurate as it was. Yes, it can be touchy to achieve a "perfect zero" with the goofy little screwdriver-slot pot, but how much accuracy do you really need? Fixed capacitors come in standard values and are separated in value by a sufficient margin that I cannot imagine anyone "mistaking" the value of a capacitor based on any error displayed by this meter. A ceramic capacitor marked "68pf" displayed as 69.6pf, an error of only 2.3%; since most capacitors are rated at 5%, 10%, or 20%, this little meter is VERY accurate, in my view. And remember, this is not a piece of "laboratory standard" equipment, it is a simple measurement tool that lets the engineer or technician know if the components they test are "in the right ballpark". Given the price point, I think this meter is a gem! BTW, I'm a retired EE who had 20 years of technician experience before "moving up" into RF & digital electronics design engineering for the next 25 years. ... show more

  • Nice meter! Pretty accurate!
I've been meaning to buy a capacitance meter for years, but kept forgetting to! I'm doing a build project soon... a replica of a vintage late '70's/early '80's Music Man Stingray bass guitar preamp, and wanted to build it with good quality parts. So, I purchased all of the electronic components, but wanted to check all the capacitors to be at least within a few percentage points of spec. This little, handy meter was perfect! Just what I needed, and at a great price! I also love the backlit display that you can turn on, and it stays on for only a few seconds as to not drain the batteries. Great little, handy meter! I recommend it! ... show more

  • Works fine. 3 yrs + still working.
The media could not be loaded. Easy and compact, tested many capacitors. Accurate enough to tell good capacitors from bad ones, only problem leads are short that it came with. But works for me. Good day!

  • Worth the cost. Works fairly well.
I bought this to check capacitors quickly, even though I have several other meters such as a Fluke 289, Reed R5001, Extech and etc., I thought it would be a nice addition to my tools for the cost. I was a bit skeptical at first for 25 bucks. I received the item, and it appeared to be well packaged and in good shape. I opened the box and found a meter, pair of short leads and a single sheet of paper with copied instructions in the ever so popular chinese interpretation of english which is sometimes very comical and other times frustrating. The case was cheap plastic and had a rubberized orange jacket around it with a flip out kick stand in the back. The unit came installed with a battery as do most test equipment now. There are three ports for probes at the bottom, the two outer ports seem to be identical, and it does not appear to make a difference which one you plug into to. They are both labeled the same, and in the instruction sheet they are both numbered the same. Not sure why you would need two identical ports but I guess it is nice to have a backup or maybe use two different style probes at the same time. After plugging in the probes and turning the unit on I found a crisp LCD screen with a rather bright backlight which is nice. The white light will fade as it times out which is a nice touch. I proceeded to test some know capacitor values, electrolytes, foil, etc. All values seemed to be within tolerances, but I did find that the meters tolerance varies a bit when you get into the pF capacitors. Also, keep in mind that the probes lead add about 20 pF to the meter so you either need to zero out the display or subtract that from your measured value which is no big deal. Measured values in all ranges except the really high pF capacities seemed to be within 5% of the Fluke 289 measured values with the exception of a 10% margin of difference in very small capacitance values compared to the Fluke 289. What this comes down to is, this meter is a great value for 25 bucks! It is not lab precision but I would not expect it to be for the cost. For 25 bucks, you get a down and dirty quick way to measure and test capacitors in a small lightweight case that can easily be thrown in your toolbox or bag to take along. And at 25 bucks, the fear of damage, loss or theft is minimal. I would recommend this meter to anyone that is in need of a budget capacitor tester that appears to be fairly accurate across most of its range. ... show more
