Features

  • Note:This capacitor tester is used for testing the internal resistance of the capacitor, not for testing capacitance value.
  • Our ESR meter changes the square wave to a 100 KHz sine wave, eliminating the high-frequency components in the square wave, otherwise it will be conducted to the test line and capacitor, affecting the measurement results.
  • The V2 is a popular and versatile capacitance meter, primarily designed for testing and analyzing various types of resistors, capacitors, and inductors. It's commonly used by electronics hobbyists, technicians, and engineers for troubleshooting, quality control, and characterization of electronic components.
  • The smaller impedance allows the capacitance multimeter to measure the true series resistance value more accurately. Using this theory, we can measure whether a capacitor is good/bad or good.
  • This ohm meter only applies less than 15mV DC or peak-to-peak across a good capacitor, so we can use it as a circuit test.
  • Capacitance meters have double terminals for convenient and quick check of capacitor internal resistance, printed meter for quick check. Equipped with SMD alligator clips, the test is more accurate. The surface is copper-plated, anti-corrosion and anti-oxidation.

  • Seems to do the job
I've never had one of these before but can see how it would be useful to diagnose bad capacitors. It was fun going through a drawer of capacitors I've had for years and seeing that the typical high-grade brands measured low more often than the no-name caps. I will definitely be measuring new capacitors before soldering into something. It's super simple to use and the manual is hardly required (but always good to review). The label on the front is a good reference for what maximum ESR is "good", and the LCD also tells you something to the effect of "if this cap is less than XXXuF, then it's good". An odd thing I noticed is when powered by batteries, which were nowhere near new, the display dimmed partway through the test process although the battery indictor still claimed the batteries are ok. Using batteries that aren't half-dead might take care of it. I plugged it into USB power and didn't see any of that behavior. The user manual claims less than 15mV test voltage which would prevent semiconductors from forward biasing, hence the claim that it will test in-circuit. A funny thing in the manual is "Around 10 hours for not testing, it will shut down automatically to save power". I hope they mean 10 minutes! When powered off, the backlit display says "THANKS FOR USING GOODBYE". That's not something you see on the high-end test equipment but it's cute. ... show more

  • Resistance is Helpful
This Capacitance Meter is used for testing the internal resistance of a capacitor, NOT for testing capacitance values. That said, it is more of a Go / No Go gauge when troubleshooting capacitors. The meter comes with two different sets of test leads. They are both short in length, putting the meter right on top of the work you’re troubleshooting. The leads have to be short for accurate readings. The second set has a SMD alligator clip. The clips exert a lot of force, enough to crush a gummy, or shatter a small SMD right off a board. For those small component measurments, a set of tweezer probes (Not Included) would be better. There are also test terminals under the banana jacks right on the meter, for measuring components with leads. When using those, don’t forget to zero the meter first, using a small piece of wire in the same component lead sockets. Great addition to the work bench ... show more

  • The easiest way to measure ESR of a capacitor
This is the best device for finding failed capacitors while in circuit. If you troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment such as TV's, radios, computers, etc., this is the meter for you. There are 2 kinds of resistance exhibited by a capacitor, namely 1)Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and 2) parallel resistance (aka insulation resistance). If ESR is high, the capacitor needs to be replaced. With this meter, every capacitor can be checked without removing any connections which is a massive time saver. The front of the meter has a table showing the limits for ESR based on voltage and capacitance. There is also a calibration button to eliminate the resistance of the test leads during the measurement. This version of the meter is an upgrade which uses sinusoidal waveforms instead of square waves for a more accurate reading. Other lower quality meters use square waves because they are easier (i.e. - cheaper) to generate. It comes with test leads for both surface mount and through-hole parts. ... show more

  • It does okay.
I got this for my husband for our workshop. He says it's pretty decent, but not great. The screen is hard to read sometimes. There are similar products for cheaper.

  • Not so great ESR meter
For $60 this ESR meter fall below expectation. The display is not evenly lighted and it's not very bright. The measurement accuracy is ok (when compared to a $30 meter) The kelvin probe is short (as to be expected for accurate measurement.) It did not comes with any batteries (disappointing.)

  • ESR meter, not a capacitance meter
This is a useful tool to test the ESR of a capacitor only, this will NOT test the capacitor's capacitance (uF or microfarad, Farad, etc.) as the listing suggests. There is apparently a different version that measures both. ESR or Equivalent series resistance is the internal resistance of a capacitor. The value represents the loss of useful energy in a simple electronic circuit consisting of a resistor and an ideal (perfect) capacitor. Technically speaking, the energy is not lost, but rather dissipated as undesirable heat. The lower the value the better in most cases. Made in China. ... show more

  • Useful ESR Meter
I did not previously own anything that could measure esr. While the meter is good for that, it doesn't provide any other information apart from the impedance. The 100 kHz drive seems to be fine, but the signal is easily affected by crosstalk, so be wary of overlapping cables. I had the kelvin wires not connected to the meter laying on my desk. The o-scope cable contacting it at 2 points along it while connected to the scope, and that produced the signal in the second image, the feedback. This should help me to identify bad capacitors even if they are still reading in tolerance during repairs. ... show more
