    • Another good SunVara product
I am a new beekeeper (started in 2021) and am still acquiring tools I need to take care of the bees and harvest honey. I only have 2 hives, so I do everything manually - including collecting honey. The first year I tried just 'slicing' off the caps and letting the honey drip out of the comb. That didn't work very well -- the honey really needs to be 'extracted' somehow. The next year, I used the 'crush and strain' method, where I just scraped off the comb completely and then squeezed/strained it through a mesh screen. What a mess, and it ruined the comb which the bees must then rebuild the next year. This year I will use this uncapping roller and see if I can poke holes in the capping and either rent or borrow a centrifugal extractor, or maybe try setting the frame over a tray in the oven set at about 100F. So I think this roller will be great to uncap the honey cells without damaging the comb and without the mess of using a heated knife to slice off the caps. We'll see. Just a note that SunVara really produces some nice products, so I recommend them.     • Takes a bit of practice
I used it last night for the first time on a test run (two super frames). I have an extractor and I ran this along the capped cells. I'd recommend from what I learned--brace the bottom in your capping bucket, and take your time to roll up and down over the whole capped frame. Do it twice because one time you might only get the very edge of the capped cell. It's also easy to clean--run under hot water. Because it's a tool like the capping rake which this is replacing, you do get a lot of wax in your extractor, so make sure you filter your honey well. I personally don't mind it--it's less wax than slicing the cappings off but it does less damage to the honey cells, which means less work for the gals to clean up and refill. ... show more

    • Sturdy, perfect size for standard medium hives. Easy clean.
Wooden handle, steel shaft, hard plastic end. End has a nut. I haven't tried it, but it looks like you could take off the nut and replace the head if ever you needed to. The head is a hard plastic, spiny roller. Like a small paint roller in size. It turns freely, is super sturdy. Will definitely do the job. I haven't used it yet, as it's not time to uncap. Perfect size for our medium 10 frame hives. just cut off the cap with a knife blade, roll the sections that the knife misses. Easy cleanup. I see no issues with this roller. Good tool. ... show more

Good solid handle and roller assembly. The spikes are a good sharp plastic and will penetrate the caps easily. This will be much cleaner than scraping the caps off like we have been doing and less wax we have to filter out when processing. Easy to use, just roll it over the comb and your done.     • Well Made and Efficient
This uncapping roller creates a more even uncapping with a smaller surface area than an uncapping knife. Some frames have lower capped honey than the frame's edges and it is hard to get it all open with a knife. Less clean-up than with a knife and saving more honey too, so you don't have to squeeze the honey out of the wax capping. Just roll the frames and put them in an extractor.     • Exactly what I needed for my Layen’s frames
I run Layen’s hives so there is very limited equipment made for these frames. The way the frames are built you can’t really do a spacing for fatter frames so knives are not really an option. I had been using the scratcher hair pick looking uncapper but it can be some work. This just makes everything easier especially getting into all the frame corners.     • Great addition to my bee tool set
This is well made for the price and I think it should hold up for a long time as long as you don't beat it around unnecessarily. Sometimes the honeycomb isn't built out past the frame far enough to get it uncapped with a knife and this roller helps quickly get the honey exposed for extracting.
