  • Gets the job done at awesome price
Size: Finish Max
I recently bought this sprayer because I'm refinishing my oak cabinets. We're painting them and a brush and roller was out of the question for the doors and drawers. I've never used a sprayer before and was ready to drop $200-300 on a good one since I'm a perfectionist. Decided to give this one a chance due to the reviews and great price. I'm very happy I did! I'll try to outline all the details and what I've learned here in hopes it helps someone else. My skill level: About a year of DIY home projects learning as I go. First time using a paint sprayer. The project: Refinish existing oak kitchen cabinets with paint. Prep: I sanded down the cabinets to scuff up existing paint and sheen. I primed with Kilz oil based original primer. I used a latex primer first but being in a kitchen, some staining started showing through. I de-greased as best I could and the Kilz worked really well and immediately blocked everything. I then sanded down the Kilz (2 coats of primer) for a smooth finish. Tack cloth to remove the powder/dust. A great paint job requires great prep. Bad paint results are most likely due to bad prep. Type of paint I used: SW Pro-Classic semi-gloss. (Latex based) The sprayer: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! And then follow them! I think that's the reason people may not get the most from the sprayer. It comes ready to use all you have to do is fill in the paint. I filled the container with paint then diluted with water per instructions. It says to use the viscosity cup but I felt like I shouldn't water it down too much so I kind of just kept adding water until I felt like the sprayer sprayed a good consistency (I know, I just told you to follow instructions). The less diluted the paint is, the less paint will spray out. The sprayer can spray horizontal, vertical, or in a cone with an easy setting. It also has a little nozzle thingy on the handle that increases or decreases flow. It's electric and plugs into the wall or extension cord. No air compressor required. Spraying: I set the the doors up on buckets in my spray area (bunch of plastic hung up to enclose an area). I then sprayed about 5-10 inches away in slow, deliberate, steady, sweeping motions. You don't want to bend your wrist. Aim straight, and just move steadily left to right (or up and down). Don't stop spraying until your hand passes the project (again, this is all in the instructions!). Overlap each spray a bit. For the doors, I did a pass in one direction across the door, and a second pass the other direction. I wiped off the tip every couple doors because paint builds up and can affect the spray. I had to paint about 20 doors. One container of paint was able to generously cover about 14 doors (one side) then I had to refill just a little. Clean up: Follow the instructions to a T for clean up. Clean the sprayer immediately after use to avoid paint drying inside. Took me a while the first time but about 20 mins after that. I wouldn't use this with oil based paints just because clean up for oil paints is awful. Results: Very happy with the results. The doors look fantastic and are a pretty smooth finish. The paint I used is self-leveling and did a fantastic job evening out without any additives. There are no indications of bad spray pattern or splotches. I've never used a sprayer before so I don't have any reference for a more expensive one, but I feel like this one is pretty forgiving and the results look great. The key was to just keep a steady, consistent spray going. I did two heavy coats and the coverage is excellent. Final thoughts: I'm sure a $300 sprayer is better in some way, but I'm a homeowner who just wants to do a few projects here and there. I don't use this for professional work. The results are fantastic and even better than I imagined. Lots of compliments on the job so far. I think for the money it's worth you give this a try if you're just doing some projects around the house! ... show more

  • Great product! I love this HomeRight Finish Max Fine ...

Great product! I love this HomeRight Finish Max Fine Paint Sprayer so much. I researched a lot of different sprayers and after reading the favorable reviews for this product, I decided to take the plunge. So happy I did as it made my painting projects effortless and they came out amazing! At first I thinned the latex paint too much and the result was drippy. After I made the necessary corrections the paint covered very well. I used a coat of primer and 2 coats of semi gloss latex paint. One of my paint projects was a louvre bi fold door and it was quick, easy and looks like new. The last time I painted louvre doors was with spray cans and it took too long, was too expensive and came out blotchy because I wanted a shiny finish to make the doors easy to wipe clean but it was taking far too many cans of paint to achieve this result and I had to stop, hence the doors attracted dust and were a pain to clean. This sprayer is very easy to use and very simple to clean. I was concerned about the cleaning aspect of a hand held sprayer but it really was not a big deal. I used an old toothbrush to clean the head and little crevices because I found the brush that was included was too soft to really get into the nooks and crannies. The sprayer did clog but only twice while I was doing a far larger furniture project and I only had to give the head a quick cleaning (didn't take it apart just used the wet toothbrush). If there were a drawback to this HomeRight finish sprayer, it would be that you can only paint items that are standing up, not laying down. I tried to paint cabinet doors and had them on the lawn which didn't work out well. Once I stood them up on an old table with bricks behind them to hold them standing upright it all went well. Other than that, if you're in need of a paint sprayer that is easy to use, easy to clean and a great price, this is the one to choose! ... show more

  • Paint sprayer
Size: Finish Max
The media could not be loaded. I purchased this sprayer because after a lot of research, it seemed like this was low maintenance and I wouldn't have to thin all my paint (based on description & reviews). Not true! It was a bit of work to figure out the proper viscosity for the paint. It does come with a viscosity cup, but it's still a game of trial and error! I would also say that the cleaning of the sprayer involves a bit more than just filling it with warm soapy water and running it! You must completely disassemble the unit and ensure no paint is still around the seals, etc. I was using a high quality white latex (water based) paint, so I think that's just normal for this unit. Overall though, the sprayer works well and makes the job a bit easier. I don't know if I saved any time, but I was painting shiplap, and it is difficult to get in between the boards with a brush, so it was worth it! There is quite a lot of over spray, so plan accordingly and tape off well. I also had to clean the nozzle in-between each filling of the paint cup. But in all fairness, it was over 100 degrees and I was painting outside, so the paint was drying really fast! Not a bad little unit for DIY projects! ... show more
