I first bought one of these over a year ago but it sat in my garage and I didn't assemble it until a couple weeks ago. Even though I had to paint the shelves (they were unfinished hardboard), I was thoroughly impressed, so I ordered 4 more. Those arrived a week ago and I found the shelves covered with plastic laminate - white on one wide and wood grain on the other. Wonderful! Assembled those 4 in short order. It takes me an hour per unit now, mostly because I bolt every corner together (not mentioned or required by the instructions, but gives me peace of mind). If I wasn't bolting them together (using 10-24 x 1/2" bolts, washers and lock nuts), it would take about 15 minutes per unit. I'm ordering 2 more today. If you struggle with messes in your storage area(s) at home and no place to put things but on the floor, but have walls to stand shelves against, buy these! You'll be very glad you did. ... show more

I purchased two of these shelves for my garage. Let’s start with the good: 1. These are pretty easy to put together. I did it by myself and it took almost 30 minutes. The second one took me less than 25 minutes. 2. These are good looking shelves. Not for in a living room or a throng, but better looking than your average garage or basement shelves. The wood look is nice. 3. Nice extras. They come with a hook to be able to hang a tool or coat on. They also come with a bracket to be able to connect two units together. I’m not using that because I like having them a little separate so I can stand tall tools up between them. 4. They seem strong, although I haven’t loaded the shelves up yet. I put the Z brackets on to add support to some of the shelves. We will see how it does with some weight. The not-so-good: 1. Many corners of the shelves were damaged in both boxes that I got. (2 different units). I’ve included a few photos, but you should just plan on damage to corners. They were packed pretty well, but I’m disappointed that multiple areas are damaged. I don’t want to take it apart to try and return it and I don’t think a replacement would be any better. 2. The boards are pretty thin. I was expecting the shelves to be a little thicker, more sturdy. Time will tell how they hold up. My biggest concern is if they will warp since they are in my garage and it can get humid. Tip: use a rubber mallet to attach the plastic corner tips and to attach the center connection brackets. When you put on each metal brace, give it a two with the mallet as well. I needed some good looking shelves to help organize my office and these were perfect. They’re easy to put together and are holding up well for what all I have on them (printer, office supplies, etc.) and they look good too. Thinking about getting another one for more storage space.

I had previously tried the 5 tier shelf from sams club -very bad idea- returned immediately to sams because they were so flimsy and wouldn't stay together. So I ordered 2 of the "HOMEDANT Z-BEAM Heavy Duty Wide Size Garage Storage, 5-Tier Adjustable Metal Shelving" units. They were much more expensive then the sams ones I had but I saw good reviews and I figured I would try them out. Unfortunately amazon shipped and the 1 shelf was damaged. Big gash on the back and all the corners of the shelves were damaged. However, 1 of the shelves was perfect. So I started putting that together. Let me say, the ease of putting those shelves together was amazing. You need a rubber mallet but when you have one leg hooked into another you don't need to worry about it coming apart. I easily put it together myself in less than an hour. Those notches Homedant has are not little welded on bolts like sams club, but are actually punch outs of the metal itself and they tighen into the bars perfectly! The shelves are MDF but they are thicker than what you would get elsewhere. And with those Z rails I have no doubt that they will easily hold up as long as they don't get wet. Oh also, I had contacted the seller right after purchase to see where I could get some more Z rails and they sent them right over! No issues. Great company and superb product. ... show more
