  • Dog recipe book.
This is a book with many delicious healthy recipes for dogs.

  • Great, simple recipes for your dogs
There are tons of fun recipes you can make in this book and they give you lots of ideas for ways you can improvise and tweak the recipes according to what you have on hand. Personally, I don't see myself cooking for my dogs every single night, so the most helpful recipes for me are the ones that can be made in quantity and refrigerated or frozen and used as needed. The MOST helpful thing for me was the included tear-out bookmark that's a quick reference chart for serving sizes of different ingredients, and food suggestions that fall into the different categories that should be included in your dog's diet. There's also a VERY helpful and easy to read 4-week transition chart detailing how to transition your dog from commercial dog food to homemade and then to raw. I bought a few different books when I decided to switch my dogs to a homemade raw diet, and this book is by far the most helpful. It provides plenty of information without being over-the-top scientific or requiring a degree in nutrition. The only thing this book didn't have, that I would've found helpful, is a separate section with special recipes for dogs with specific health issues. This book is intended for already healthy dogs who transition to homemade/raw. Regardless, it was still amazingly helpful and I was able to tweak a few of the recipes as I needed to make them work for my older dog who is recovering from pancreatitis. ... show more

  • It is set up in a sensible format and easy to follow
This cookbook is for someone who really wants to cook for their dog(s). It is set up in a sensible format and easy to follow. My dogs love all of the recipes I've tried so far. My issue with this cookbook is that I have four dogs with different needs/ages/weights that I need to feed. The author bases her recipes on an average of a 50 lb dog, as in one 'recipe' is set up for 4-50lb dogs, and then there is a single serving recipe below as well. So one recipe does not cover my 90 lb Labrador, my 72 lb Shepard mix, my 56 lb Pit bull mix and my 35 lb Border Collie. I have to adjust the amount I cook and serve for each dog. I'm cooking about a recipe and a half each meal. The author does list serving amounts per weight in the book, as well as how much protein, vegetables, etc to give. If I only had one dog to feed, this would be more do able for me. The author does also state what NOT to give your dog, how to add calcium using eggshells, supplements to give etc. There is a ton of helpful information here, my dogs are not complaining, but long term this is not practical for me. ... show more

  • Best dod food book by comparison
I went over many books about dog food on Amazon and this one is the most complete I have found. I love the transition recipes, the simple and more elaborated recipes, all the explainations about what a dog needs and should not eat. My only suggestion would be to develop more on the use of vitamins and other "Add-on" because I still have concerns about how these can affect my dog's health if I use them or not, especially since most of these might not be natural. I am still not sure, what would be the best format, quantity of vitamins and other add-ons (Based on the book recipes) to give to my dog. Overall I just started the transition phase with my dog, and she seems to enjoy it without difficulties. ... show more

  • Excellent for someone new to home cooking dog food
I was going crazy trying to find a kibble that my new puppy (Australian Labradoodle) liked and didnt give him liquid stool. I went through about 4 different brands including a prescription kibble from our vet none of which provided any improvement. I then considered a fresh delivery service but that was out of my budget and started looking into preparing the food myself. I was quickly overwhelmed with all of the stuff I was reading online and decided to give this book a try. I am glad I did! Aside from being easy to follow, it broke everything down in a way that just made sense. After reading, I felt that I had a solid understanding of how to plan and make healthy and nutritious meals for my pup. With the help of this book I have finally gained the courage to give the home cooked meals a try and I am happy to say that I saw the results immediately. My puppy has been on home cooked meals for about a week as of today and within the first 2 days his stool was what it should be (and about a third of what it was when he was on kibble), he doesnt scratch like he used to and he loves meal time. In my first batch, I made about 2 weeks worth of food. In my next batch, I will be making a month's worth. Note: The recipes in the book are for a 50lb adult dog but there are guidelines for modifying based on your dog's weight. I did have some questions about what if any adjustments I needed to make for a puppy and reached out to the author through her website. She was more than willing to help answer my questions and offer advice. I have learned so much over the past couple of weeks and strongly encourage everyone who has a pet to consider home cooked meals. Whether you use this book or any other, don't get discouraged because you think it will be too complicated or time consuming. (Anyone can spare one day a month to ensure their pet is getting a nutritious diet without all the fillers and side effects of commercially made food) It is not as complicated as the internet makes it seem. On a side note, I have also come to learn through my own digging that most of what is posted online that looks like news articles or blogs trying to scare you with how difficult it is to "balance" a dogs nutrition are written by big brand kibble companies. Stick to the guidelines and basic principles and always remember that even a less than perfect meal that you make at home with healthy ingredients is a million times better than the sewage they put in kibble and canned food. Thank you for taking the time to write this book and giving new pet owners like me the confidence and knowledge to keep our pets happy and healthy with home cooked food! ... show more
