    • Essential component for brewers
If you're a brewer, you know the importance of oxygenating your wort after it leaves the kettle. This is important to ensure rapid and healthy reproduction of yeast during the 'growth phase', during which the small quantity of pitched yeast increases by several orders of magnitude before actual fermentation starts. Without added oxygen, you may see increased lag times, and/or off flavors in the final product. Many homebrewers accomplish oxygenation by swirling/shaking the fermenter, but studies have shown that this does not provide nearly as much oxygen as the yeast need, due to 2 factors: 1) Air is only about 21% oxygen, and (2) shaking only provides a limited amount of contact between the air and wort. By far, the best way to get adequate oxygenation is with a setup using the diffusion stone and 'T' here. Using a little plumber's tape, connect the barbed fittings to two of the openings on the tee, and the diffuser stone to the third (it looks as though the best way to do this is to put the diffuser into one of the end ports, but putting it in the middle one would probably work too). Connect the diffuser to a a regulated oxygen supply at a few psi, one of the other tee fittings to your kettle or heat exchanger outlet, and the third port of the tee gets a hose which goes to your fermenter. Turn on the oxygen and start the flow, and you will get nearly maximal oxygenation of your wort. You will need to get yourself set up with a small oxygen tank and regulator (available at a welding gas or medical supplier), so you'll need more than just this product for a complete setup. In a pinch, you could go with a source of clean compressed air and still get good results, though as noted above air is not as good as oxygen for this purpose. This unit seems to be well-made, everything fits together nicely and the threading is clean. The T itself looks a bit thin - probably wouldn't hold the same pressure as a schedule 40 fitting, but of course it doesn't need to for this application.     • Awesome for oxygenating wort as it transfers to the fermenter
Put this inline from your boil kettle to your fermenter and oxygenate as your fermenter fills. Couldn't easier and it can be disassembled for cleaning and/or can be boiled for sanitation.
