  • Awesome Little Guy!
I love this little guy! It was perfect for me as a beginner to take on my trip for practicing... in fact, it was much better than I expected. I was able to lug this all around the airport with ease; just right out of the box from Amazon, I placed it in its soft case and buckled it around my rollaway carryon and took it on my trip to ATL from SFO - fit right in the overhead compartment on the plane (it did help that I was on First Class), I just had to make sure people didn't slam their bags on top of the neck - that did almost happen. It is very sturdy though - nice maple neck and sleek little body. Overall, it has a decent tone... I bought that tiny little Honeytone amp, though for travel and with a decent pair of head phones, it wasn't bad! However, I couldn't stand it out of the mini amp, I couldn't get it to sound good enough that way. But for travel, that worked well enough. I'll change out the strings soon, as the E string already has a nick in it and they seem pretty cheap, but it held up well for the duration I needed it and would definitely recommend to anyone needing a travel bass to have for trips, at the office, or just to keep handy in another room... ... show more

  • but great, if not ideal little carry-on / carry-around practice ...
Not ideal for a performance or primary instrument, but great, if not ideal little carry-on / carry-around practice bass. Just under 38 in long in the bag and only about 10 in wide at the body. Awkward to play without a strap, but with one, very comfortable and well balanced. Is comfortable even in cramped spaces, like in a car or on a sofa where a standard bass would be awkward or impossible. Excellent construction for this price point. Near full size scale, comparable to a 34in scale in feel. Good, bright but basic sound when plugged into an amp. The passive pickups are a little weak but clear. I needed to adjust intonation and action when it arrived, but that was very easy, and it tuned up accurately and precisely in about 15 min. Solid durable and attractive construction. Good round wound strings, and keeps its tune well. A great little practice instrument I take with me most of the time so I can practice when I find a few minutes to kill. I got the white version and it looks very nice! What more would you want in a travel/carry practice bass at this price point? I can't think of any. Oh, and above all it's very fun to play! ... show more

  • Perfect size and weight for travel, but doesn't work with 10 w bass amp
Overall I really like this little bass. I like that it doesn't look like anything else. It sounds great with my full size amp, but with the 10w amp recommended by amazon it is no louder than my very large acoustic bass without amp. Here's the problem. I'm trying to downsize for travel. So I can either have a big bass guitar with a small amp, or a small bass guitar with a big amp and that isn't really downsizing. But I like this so much I'm going to try 15w to 20w amps to see if they will work with this. I really need it loud enough to be heard over the acoustic instruments in the band. Update: I just received a Caline 20W Bass Amp Rechargeable Mini Bass Amplifier Combo for Desktop Practice with Compressor, Boost, Aux in and Headphone Jack and it works great with this guitar. Sad that I have to spend more since I already had the JOYO bass amp, but now I have the set up I want, and it's rechargeable. ... show more

  • Fun travel bass guitar
I started playing bass a few years ago with a regular acoustic bass guitar. I really enjoyed playing it but I travel a lot for work and had so much down time. So I did some research and found this Hofner; I decided to take a chance and I'm really glad I did. It's light and comes with a gig bag that has a shoulder strap, so it's easier to take around. It sounds great; it does tend to go out of tune easily, but that happens with new strings. the only complaint is that it is hard to balance. I put on a guitar strap, but even so the balance is never "quite right". But you can simply sit down with it (easier to play) or just offset the balance while you're holding it. Other than that, I would recommend this to anyone who loves to play bass. ... show more

  • A good idea ruined by neck dive
Having a playable travel bass is a great idea but the clueless manufacturers never seem to want to address neck dive making this and other travel basses uncomfortable to play standing up. I don’t know why they don’t add a little more weight, re-design the body and come up with an instrument that is comfortable to play sitting or standing and sounds good. Additionally, they never seem to get the choice of pickups right. A single soap bar pickup so close to the bridge is just not going to deliver the lows that most bassists want. Why they don’t install P bass pickups I have no idea. Upgraded P bass pickups are easy to find and are plug and play (no modification/cavity routing needed). There is only so much compromising I am willing to accept with this bass. ... show more

  • Great for my purposes
I picked this up because I am learning to play bass and guitar and live in a small space that would not accommodate a two guitar stands with a full size guitar and bass left out all the time. The size of this allows me to leave it out at all times so I can pick it up and practice at any time. When learning, it's important to be motivated and keep to a practice routine and for my purposes, it works out because if I had to drag the gig bag out of the closet to practice, I might get lazy and decide not to. It's not set up very well out of the box. The action is much higher than I would like so at some point I will have to bring it in to a luthier, but for now, it's a great bass that takes up no space at all. I've been using it with Rocksmith occasionally and have been pleased. ... show more

  • Sorry Ken!
This is not the same Bass Paul McCartney plays!! Yes he plays Hofner but not one made in China ! This is good for beginners or for practice. I can’t imagine trying to play a gig with this !
