My wife has Type 1 diabetes and uses her phone to manage it and check her blood sugar, which means we have to be much more mindful of power outages, especially long-term ones. Since her diagnosis a few years ago, I’ve really come to appreciate the peace of mind that comes with having solar power banks and chargers handy. We do have a 100W solar panel and a much larger power station, but in the event of a serious situation, that power station would be fully devoted to refrigeration to keep her insulin cold, leaving us with the need to charge our phones (especially hers). Enter this product. It’s got a really attractive design, a nice grip, a lanyard mount point, and rubberized corners to protect it from falls. The solar charging works quite well, immediately recognizing the UV rays as soon as I walked outside and lighting up before I even got into direct sunlight. I haven't yet had a chance to charge it fully with solar alone, so I can't speak on how long it takes by just sunlight, but it starts charging immediately and stays charging until taken back inside. Charging it is a breeze and doesn’t take longer than expected for a power bank of this size. However, the USB cover is incredibly difficult to open if you don’t have fingernails. This can be easily resolved with a pen or something similar to get under the cover. It’s really only an issue if you cut your fingernails super short; my wife has shorter nails but is still able to open it with ease. This is such an insignificant point that it likely affects less than 10% of consumers, so I’m not deducting anything from the product because of it. I would have liked a few more USB-C ports for future-proofing, but that's easily resolved with one of the many A-to-C adapters I’ve acquired over the years. The design is actually quite attractive, with both sides looking pretty high-end. It has a good weight to it, as you’d expect from a power bank of this size, but it’s not unwieldy or inconvenient to carry around. It’s easy to throw in a bag and go. Time will tell on battery health and longevity over the coming months and years, but I’ll update this review if anything noteworthy arises. I'm a retired electronic technician. I know a little about charging and power banks. I've reviewed several of these power banks that have a built in solar charger. None of them really have a truly effective solar charging function. The solar panel is simply not big enough for that. Also, as with most solar panels, the solar panel only really charges the bank well in direct Sunlight, and very slowly at that. This would be OK for camping with full Sun where you can set it on the hood of the car and let it slowly charge all day, then use it to charge your phone that evening. If you want a FAST full charge for that power bank, plug it in to a USB outlet. All that said, this is better than a power bank with no solar panel at all. It DOES work and charges the bank. At 27,000 mAh, the capacity is large enough to charge my iPhone or iPad from 10% to fully charged in one sitting. You probably won't be using the solar panel to charge it very often, as there is usually a USB outlet somewhere... laptop, car etc. Thus, the solar panel is somewhat of a gimmick. Good power bank though. An added feature it the huge light on the back of it. Another good idea if you're camping with this. Therefore giving it five stars. ... show more
