Description

1. Use highest quality ductile Iron 80000 PSI for minimum bending. 2. The enclosed lead screw and sliding surface are harden and ground. 3. Highest clamping power. It's very accurate and durable. 4. This vise is so designed that the horizontal force generated by tightening the handle pushes the semi- sphere within the movable jaw and thus thrusts the movable jaw downward. The workplace does not move up, even if it is held at the top of the jaw plates. 5. Four setting positions of the jaw plates are available, widening the jaw plates opening. • Broken fixed jaw.
This vise broke the first time I used it on my mini mill. Do not recommend. Fixed jaw came apart as soon as I tightened it.

  • 3 inch HEAVY milling machine vise with swivel - 4 stars
This is a great little vise overall. I lubed it up first thing when I got it. The tolerances are very good / tight. The base fits my HF mini mill table OK. Some of the paint has chipped off but does not affect the performance of the unit. Wish I had bought a clamp down model without the base, but I had to start somewhere. This thing is HEAVY! It must weigh in at about 20# ! One complaint I had other than the paint chips was the "speed handle" was too fat to fit completely onto the shaft. I figure on a "precision" vise, the D@MN handle ought to fit... I got a box end 1/2" wrench and I'm using that now. I originally put a rubber grommet on the shaft as a space before I switched to the box end wrench. The included handle is PLENTY of cranking power for any milling project I can imagine to be locked down securely. I think I paid under $100 for this vise. I have used it on several projects, and its been pretty good. Because it is small and heavy, I can use it off the mini mill as an unsecured benchtop vise. But like I said, overall this is a pretty good vise for the money, and I realize the sky is the limit if a person wants to spend the money on the most precise equipment known to man. I've seen precision vises of this size priced at over $1000... ... show more

  • Better than expected
Surprised I did not need to provide any further machining to get this vise with in tolerable specs. 0.001 is the furthest off I have measured on any of the work surfaces. tops of the jaws were 0.013 off left to right but insides faces were fine. If i were to be setting crap on top of the jaws I would just mill out a new set of soft jaws so this is not an issue one bit for me. some of the paint needed to be sanded down to allow it to open all the way with no resistance. Its not a Kurt so ready your dead blow hammer to keep stuff down on the parallels and the wife away while clamping your work. Tossed it on the stone to further check surfaces. minor high and low spots but nothing to worry about if your not making parts for NASA. I may have gotten one of the better ones out of the lot but as for my opinion for its price its a good buy. ... show more

  • A Good Vise
It arrived nicely packed in molded styrofoam so there was no damage to any of the pieces. For $90 I did not expect the quality of a Kurt vise but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it is made. For $90 I fully expected to have to do a bit of cleanup and tuning. Like most any machine product from overseas it had the usual oil and grit on it. No biggie, got that off in no time flat. I did have to do a bit of tuning to get the handle to work correctly. The outside rubbed a tad on the casting preventing the socket from fully seating. A couple of minutes with a dremel grinding stone and it is good to go. Yup, the washer are pretty darn cheesy, stamped and with burrs. I am sure I can find some decent ones or I can spin up some nice thick ones on the lathe. The screws are fine, but full of grit. So, the bottom line is that I spent about an hour cleaning, checking, tuning. Sure beats paying someone else a few hundred to do it for me! ... show more

  • Priced well but with some shortcomings...
Pretty decent vise for the price. all working surface are ground and are flat and and parallel within .001 as the should be. The degree markings on the swivel base are very lightly stamped and therefor difficult to read. a little dykem should alleviate that problem. There is no reference mark on the vise itself. You will have to add your own after aligning the vise on your mill table (Not all bad). Mounting hardware is junk (and metric if you care). The washers are so thin they easily bend when tightening the machine to the table. The threads on the fasteners are very rough. Plan on replacing these. All in all a pretty good vise for the $$ but will require a little tweaking for precision work. ... show more

  • Decent vise, NO DOWNWARD CLAMPING FORCE
Sturdy and well built vise. Clamping surfaces run very true, much more so than expected for the price. Regardless of what the description says, this vise does not exert any downward force when clamping and your work will lift off of parallels, so tap the work down as you are tightening like you would with any normal vise. The numbers lines around the swivel base were only about half stamped and had to be stamped again to be visible. A decent, usable vise once all of the packing grease is cleaned out. ... show more

  • Good for the price.
Overall a good value. Vise is cleanly made, seems accurate enough and secures material quite well for my small/hobby milling machine needs. It's no Kurt vise but at less than 1/3 the cost it's more than adequate ( I am not making parts for NASA) and actually quite good. Overall a bit better than I expected. ... show more
