I've been putting off buying a mortar and pestle for awhile now. Upon going down the rabbit hole known as Tik Tok I came across a chef, I don't recall if I normally follow him, but said he was using a Priority Chef mortar and pestle. From the looks of the product it fit the bill for what I wanted a solid base with tall side walls. When it arrived I got just that. Unfortunately, the pestle was bust into two with no visible signs of damage to the box. Rather than request a refund on Amazon I reached out to Priority Chef directly. The email was sent over the weekend and on Monday I received a positive response with empathy. They conveyed how sorry they were and provided an immediate resolution. Within 2 business days I had a brand new pestle in hand. The only negative thing I would say is that I pilurchased the 4 cup mortar and the original pestle was larger than the one I received as a replacement. Outside of that, I was finally able to wash, season, and clean my mortar. Two rounds of rice, 1 round of garlic cloves, and 1 round of seasoning did the job. Follow their instructions and smell what you've ground up, it smells great. Lastly, a quick wash and dry and I'm finally in business. A downside to owning this mortar and pestle is that now I'll have an increased reason to make salsa and guacamole among other things. I'm by no means a professional but I know I've been missing a product like this in my kitchen. ... show more

The product is exact same the way it's been shown here. The instructions written in the manual are easy to follow. A bit lengthy to 'charge' the set before first use but definitely worths the time. I have been using it for the last few months and satisfied with the product. Easy to clean, able to grind and paste small amount of spices. A bit heavy so one should be careful before start grinding. This mortar and pestle set is very much as advertised: sturdy and heavy, with two no-scratch pads that can be placed on its bottom surface to prevent it from scratching softer materials. The working surface of the pestle and the interior surface of the mortar are quite rough, which helps pin things in place so that you can achieve a grinding action. This rough surface also means that it is covered with tiny rock chips from the fabrication process, and you must clean these out prior to use! Fill the mortar with water and use the pestle to grind the surface, refreshing the water as it becomes opaque. Repeat this working your way up the sides of the mortar. You are done when the water remains clear—in my case, about 15 minutes. Once it is clean, you are good to go! ... show more

This is such good quality. It’s so heavy, which is awesome because it doesn’t move when you use it. I sometimes make curry bases in it, which takes forever, so it’s awesome that I don’t have to fight with it sliding around like my previous mortar and pestle. I placed my order Aug.17th, the item finally showed up Sept.7th. I actually began to doubt it would ever show up so I was excited that it did, yay! I own it up to discover a chip at the edge of the mortar which I blame my local USPS for. The item is great! Everything that I was aiming for. It's a very solid duet of mortar & pestle. Great size, good weight, the one thing I will need to be attentive of is texture inside the bowl. I will be using this for very expensive ingredients and will be seasoning the bowl before I begin so that what I put in comes back out instead of being lost forever in the poks as I grind.
