The mocajete is very solid and is nice looking. After three rounds of grinding the rice and salt to season the stone I ground some garlic, salt, cumin seed. I roasted garlic, jalapeños, a Serrano pepper,tomatoes, and some onion. Started grinding the onions and garlic first, then added the peppers, finally the tomatoes and salt. It's a stone m&p, it's heavy. It's pretty and with a little work, grinds and smoothes foods. There is a break-in series of grinding rice in it to season and clean it. After that, cleaning was easy. It's big enough to grind a little corn flour, grind my own spices or make guacamole. Versatile. Only gave 4 stars as it arrived with a chip missing and now there are 4 small chips missing. I did end up buying a longer, skinnier pestle because I thought it would be easier to grip but I use both equally. Rc’d today. Soaked, washed, let air dry, (went to 2 hour show) ground rice(no blackening or loose granite pieces👍🏻), ground garlic, cumin, peppercorns. Washed. Still smell a hint of garlic, still wet. Ok as I usually cook w lots of garlic. Letting it air dry over night. Like the weight, bowl size (2 cup) and pestal comfortable and easy to hold in hand/use.
