  • Workhorse.. so far... UPDATED
Size: 150,000 BTU (W3H150FDP)
Well, after reading almost all the reviews, many of which either loved this heater, or advised to avoid it at all cost, I decided to give it a try. For 12 years, I have been heating my plunge spa with a Hayward heat pump, and while it worked, it was super slow to heat in the spring and the fall. I chose the smallest propane heater I could find, as my pool is only 10' by 10' by 4' with an infinity edge. Plumbing it in was pretty straight forward. This little heater roared to life and I went from a 1 degree increase every hour with the heat pump, to 1 degree every 10 minutes. It has worked flawlessly since the install 4 months ago, and I hope it will continue. When it fires up, it has a low rumble, and the water is very noticeably hot. It only kicks on a couple of times a day. Thought I would give it a thumbs up to counter all the negative reviews. UPDATE Feb 2022: After 2 seasons, this little guy has worked perfectly. Not a single issue. My little plunge spa stays as warm as we want to set it. UPDATE May 2024: Fired right up again this year. Can't say enough good things about it. ... show more

  • Arrived with a broken igition board and Hayward customer service is useless
Size: 150,000 BTU (W3H150FDP)
It takes quite some effort to get such a heater properly installed to power and gas, then one has to figure out how to connect it the pool filter and pool, as it doesn't come with any ready-to-connect hose connectors. One has to figure out for themselves what parts are needed to connect the water-flow. When everything was finally connected, I was greeted by an error code. Proper diagnosis revealed that the ignition control board is faulty. Btw - BEWARE IF YOU ARE BUYING THIS PRODUCT ONLINE: Only PARTS are covered by warranty, but no labor! I have since been trying to get a call-back from Hayward tech support (3 days now) and just called back again to be told that they technicians are too busy right now (is it because your product breaks so easily??) and that I should call back next week if I don't hear from them today. - Possibly another weekend where I can't use the heater. Reaching out to the seller ("In The Swim") just got me boilerplate responses such as: "You can return the unit, if you pack it in its original box on its original crate". It cost me a lot of money to just get it professionally hooked up, I just want the damn thing repaired. Needless to say that this was the last Hayward product I will ever buy (unless they do get back to me today and resolve my issue ASAP! - I may update my review accordingly). ... show more

  • Stopped working 4 months in
Size: 400,000 BTU (W3H400FDP)
Purchased this in April 2024. In August it read an error number which we googled and it said the board needed to be replaced. I reached out to the seller and I received a response saying to contact the manufacturer. I just ordered a board for $350 from Amazon. I’ve learned my lesson with buying items like this from sellers ... show more

  • Great heater
Size: 250,000 BTU (W3H250FDP)
Price was the beast I could find on the internet. It was not too hard to install, but I had help from a friend, that is a licensed plumber, and my Brother in law who is a licensed electrician. So I was basically muscle and tool getter. After going crazy with the LO code. I finally watched a video and it explained that the problem was LOW WATER PRESSURE. I went through every water line and after fully taking apart my filter, and cleaning it, the heater worked as expected!!! Great product and the family was enjoying the pool the next day. ... show more

  • Gas hog but works great.
Size: 150,000 BTU (W3H150FDP)
Quick review... bought the 150,000 btu version works great so far heats 26 ft above ground pool but uses gas quicker then I expected and I did my research. Long review... Well we took the plunge so to speak and bought this bad boy to heat our 26 ft above ground pool about 18,000 gallons. Arrived when it said it would, nothing broken looks great. We don't have a natural gas supply to the neighborhood and propane delivery prices are about $1.50 more a gallon then going to the store and filling it yourself so I figured I'll just get two 40 lb tanks (twice the size of a normal bbq tank) a high flow regulator (designed for 200,000 btus) some 3/4" gas line and we should be golden. Seems like a great idea but this thing uses fuel so quickly (when on constantly for initial warm up) that the tank freezes over and looses pressure because the liquid propane is to cold to turn to a gas. My solution was place the tank and a tub of pool temp water, seems to work I can get about 75% of the tank before it creates an iceberg on the bottom of the tank. I am hoping that once to temp and it's a hot summer day here in Washington state fuel use will be much less and the freezing will not be a problem. I'll post an update if I remember to.... ... show more
