🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Ecosmart Pool 27kw is a pool heater that has mixed reviews. Users note that while the heater does a great job heating a large pool and is compact and silent, there are some design and function aspects that may cause problems. These include parts that are susceptible to rusting as well as issues with the temperature control system that may cause spikes in electricity usage.

Pros

  • 🌡️ Effectively heats large pools
  • 🔇 Operates silently
  • 💼 Compact design
  • 🔧 Heating elements seem easy to service and replace

Cons

  • 🚫 Rusting occurs quickly on certain parts
  • 💡 Possibly high electricity usage due to temperature control fluctuation
  • 📞 Customer service and warranty may be unreliable
  • 💡 Requires substantial electrical supply (200 Amp minimum)

Should I Buy It?

The Ecosmart Pool 27kw may be a suitable purchase if you have a substantial electrical supply and are willing to implement preventive care for potential rusting. However, the potential for high electricity usage due to temperature control issues may require additional troubleshooting. Be prepared to consider the possible challenges in terms of customer service and warranty.

  • Good heater, if you know what to expect
Style: Smart POOL 27
I installed this heater for my 13k inground pool with electrical service approx 120ft away using #6 wire. As long as you understand how to design the electrical to support this huge power draw and understand the tradeoffs, it works great. Be sure you calculate the voltage drop at the end of your wiring run as that will affect the heater performance. Be sure your breakers are rated for the correct ambient and termination temps because the breakers can get really hot especially if you're heating your pool 24/7 for several days and your service panel is in direct sun. Ensure your electrician understands this. I wanted a heater where I could raise the pool temp to 85F with two days notice anytime during pool season, and this does that. In socal in the winter I can heat my pool from 55F to 85F in approx 4-5 days (but you pay a ton of money in electricity to do so). During spring/summer I can easily raise the temp at least 10-15 degrees per day of use. Watch out for the pool chemistry which directly impacts longevity of the heating elements. Follow the manual instructions and you'll be good. I also drain mine when not in use to further extend longevity. The way this heater works is that is has 3 9kw heating elements and draws the full 27k (9kw x 3) when heating up to the set temp. Once at the set temp, it holds the water temp by cycling the three 9kw heating elements on and off. When the water temp stabilizes it then cycles one 9kw heating element on and off to maintain the water temp. The on-off cycling, especially at 27kw, can have the unintended effect of lights flickering in the house (especially LED lights) due to the momentary voltage drop across the entire house. Depending on your electrical service and neighborhood that voltage drop could result in momentary voltages as low as 80V that I've seen. For a future version I would recommend improving the on-off cycling (when maintaining a set temperature). If there's a way to ramp power draw from zero to 9kw/27kw that would help with voltage drops and lights flickering. ... show more

  • It works great for about 1 month - I'm on my 3rd unit
Style: Smart POOL 27
TERRIBLE DO NOT BUY. They told me after the unit stopped working after 6 weeks that hard water caused a complete decay of the elements and that every 2 months I should have washed them. Well, if it stopped working after 6 weeks, then how is that even possible. They said the warranty doesn't cover hard water. I said that the elements are covered under warranty and she said "no" they aren't. They can't just "say" that. I asked them to prove it and show me where it says anything about hard water and she said it doesn't. They simply do not honor their own product. Update again - My replacement has now stopped working. This elements inside are absolutely shot. They can't handle the chlorine. Update: I got a replacement unit and this one works great! I read the bad reviews, yet I still ordered this hoping it would work for me. It didn’t. The install was fairly easy as I had my electrician do it and my plumber. It worked great for two weeks. And then nothing. Then we go through the endless loop of terrible customer support. Customer support expects you to be a wizard at machinery. The flow meter is in the inlet and it is extremely difficult to take out and check and extremely difficult to put back in. After weeks of struggling with customer support inadequacy, she simply wanted to send me another flow meter, which was in perfect condition. I asked to speak with a supervisor and the lady said that she was going to tell me the same thing. I asked them to overnight the flowmeter because I have a short term rental business and this was going to cause a big problem for the weekend, and she said that I would have to pay for the overnight even though I spent weeks trying to solve this on the phone with them. I’ve had the unit for one month, end it is also already resting on the outside. I do not recommend this product. Beware. ... show more

  • Works Awesome
Style: Smart POOL 18
The instructions are not great for pool heater so I wanted to explain how it works for people that are new to heater buying such as myself. I have an intex pool and actually spent more on this heater then the pool but I wanted to put my pool in my garage and see if it would work and it did. The heater is awesome. The heater does take 2 50 amps, the package says 40 and some things say 50, we used 50 and it works, if you are handy you can do it or you will need to hire an electrician, you cannot just plug this thing in. We spent about $200 on pvc pipe, wires and stuff to get this heater working so it will cost more then just the heater. We have a sandfilter and we are able to put it on N to make the heater run faster through the pump, when the heater runs through on filtration it does not run as fast. I hope the pictures help. It took an afternoon to get it all set up. Our heater would not turn on right away and it was because the flow was not fast enough. ... show more
