I purchased this anchor to use with an SUP when I paddle a spring-fed river, so that I can go swimming and not lose my board. The rope is extra long, and will hold up well in the water as well as dry quickly. The carabiner clip is dirty as well, and will attach to the same cord that can hold a leash. Also included is a dry bag, which is not necessary for the anchor, but an added bonus to keep other items dry on a paddling trip. With regards to the weight at only 3 pounds, it works just fine if the clog rips the sand. I've used this on many a lake or river. We lash all the paddleboards together in a flower pattern, weigh anchor, and enjoy our flotilla. Even if you "lock" the anchor in the open position, it often manages to close itself when you toss it in the water. So it may take some extra finesse to get it to stay open and grip the bottom. But for the price and the packability, I've easily gotten my money's worth out of this. I wanted a small anchor I could easily use for my inflatable stand up paddle board. This anchor is perfect! I’ve used this to anchor my board and my friend’s board at once while we anchor in a good spot for swimming. We no longer have to tie off to a cypress tree and then walk in mucky water filled with sticks to get out into deeper water. We can just anchor right there! For reference I’m only using this in various Florida Springs so I haven’t tried it in wavy, windy conditions. The only issue I’ve noticed is my own fault. The bag is waterproof, so if you put the anchor back inside the bag and then forget about taking it out to dry, it will start to rust a bit. ... show more

The anchor itself is awesome. Rope is awesome. Buoy so far is awesome even though it's foam - we'll see how it holds up. The bag it came with is crap, lol. Like some reviews, change the placement of the knot to the bottom of the anchor, zip tie the rope to the top of the anchor, in case you get caught on a rock you can snap the tie and free the anchor by pulling from the back. It’s heavy, it’s blue and it sinks to the bottom. It does everything you want an anchor to do. Hold me well on a paddle board in the gulf.

The anchor mechanism itself is efficient and easy to use. The rope is one of those nylon kinds that you can’t make tight knots with, because it’s hard and won’t stretch. I barely managed to catch my anchor when the original knot slipped. It also isn’t sturdy so it was fraying in a spot in the middle after 5 uses with my kayak.
