  • A fine addition too an amazing game
Style: The Rogue Heir of Elethorn (Hero Collect...
The Rouge Hier is the perfect class addition that is perfect to build hype for the next expansion. The Rouge brings a crafty way of fighting along with a bit of lore that ties them too The Mage Of Mirrors set to release next year. The Rouge itself is a fun character and unlike the Guardian Knight will be readily available so if you have to wait a bit before getting this new hero the price wont spike. Hope more new classes like the Rouge come out. ... show more

  • Breathtaking Redesign that Honors the Classic Game
Style: Kellar's Keep (Quest Pack)
I fell in love with this game playing the original when I was a child. This redesign pays a lot of respect to the original game while improving the quality of the gameboard, tokens, quest book, and miniatures. I love it and it is well worth the money.

  • Amazing game, I am so glad they re-released it
Style: HeroQuest Game System
I played this game back in the late 1980's and loved it! In absence of a DM in our local area that didn't drink during their sessions (my wife and I simply don't want to be in that atmosphere) I bought this game for my wife and I to play. While it is definitely not D&D, it is still very fun, and they even released an App for the phone that can play the "dungeon master" for you so that you can all play as the characters. My wife and I have had so much fun with it. ... show more

  • Good minatures and solid adventure.
Style: The Frozen Horror (Quest Pack)
Great adventure that brings back childhood memories of playing the original. Would love to see the other hero expansions be released with some new materials as well. This is a great overall intro for new tabletop gamers. Also segways easily into Heroscape for those who have that collection also.

  • Comparison to the original
Style: HeroQuest Game System
In all the pictures I took, the original is shown above or to the right. Some of my original pieces are painted, they did not originally come that way. One thing not shown is that unlike in the original, only the skulls are on sprews the first time you open the box. Another is that the sarcophagus actually opens. The box art is different, but similar, and the box is not as wide, but is much taller. I disagree with the 14+ age recommendation. I'd say 8+, a player needs to be able to read, do basic addition and subtraction, and play a game that takes over an hour. There's no blood or anything that warents a 14+ either. The board is bigger as are the squares of the grid. I prefer the unhelmeted knight depicted on the lid of the original sarcophagus as well as the etchings on the pages of the origanal book on the sorcerer's table. However, in the new edition, the candlesticks are not as crazy tall or as easy to break and there are no cardboard component to any of the furniture. The skulls and rats in the new version don't have pegs so you can place them wherever or not even use them. The doors are also not cardboard. Very excited about this. I think that perhaps reviewers who complain about the quality of the remake remember playing the game decades ago, but don't actually have an original to compare to. The hero and monster miniatures are slightly larger than the original, have round instead of square bases, and have way more detail. The elf hero as well as a third of the goblins and half of the orcs are female. I do really like the armor on the original gargoyle though. The character sheets are slightly larger in the Avolon Hill version and the dice are plastic instead of wood. The armory is replaced with cards and the rules specify that they are always in stock even though there are a limited number of cards. There are also 4 additional items available. The character cards are on two regular cards per hero instead of the big square cardboard ones in the original. The treasure and spell decks are all the same. The Fimir has been replaced by Abomination with the same stats and all references of "chaos" have been replaced with "Dread". This is probably due to Games Workhop and their Warhammer copyright. There are 4 new artifact cards, but as far as I can tell all quests are exactly the same. Perhaps the new artifacts are for custom quests. The stairs tile and the wide block tiles have an alternate art on the reverse side as opposed to just being blank. There is a tile with a gold symbol that I can't find any reference to, so I assume it's to mark who's turn it is. Otherwise all tiles are the same. The rule and quest booklets are glossy and bound with thread instead of staples. The rules are the same, but there are some clarifications where the original rule booklet was vague. Zargon's screen is also the same but seems to remain standing better than the original one. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and will definitely use the Avolon Hill version more often. I look forward to getting the two quest packs that are available and hope they reprint the other four as well. ... show more
