  • Great board game to destroy friendships, 10/10
This board game is so much fun to play with a group of five or more friends. Only complaint I will have is the pieces can get a bit confusing once a lot are on the board. We started using pieces from Risk instead and it worked out perfectly.

  • College Kids Love It
I haven't played this game myself but my son's group of college friends absolutely love it. They play it every weekend. This game has replaced their weekly D&D games.

  • Best way to ruin a friendship in 12 hours
An oldie but a goodie, diplomacy is the game of stabbing your friends in the back all while lying with a smile. The entire game is played by declaring your moves in secret and hoping noone declared a counter to that move (ie you get someone to promise let me move into Hungary and I'll let you move into Italy for example). Because it takes time to plan with others and get them to make promises, the game takes a while (think a whole day or weekend). There are newer games that ruin friendships faster, but none with the refinement of global domination and zero luck from a die roll or card draw. ... show more

  • For my son in law
It was a gift, so I'm not sure if he likes it, but, he seemed excited to get it!

  • One of the Best War Games Ever
This game is not for the casual or even the average game enthusiast. Compared to many war games, the rules are fairly easy but the strategy is very complex and dependent on who the other players are and how many other players are playing the game. I gave it a low "giftable" rating because only a few people who like war games that can involve making and breaking alliances and take hours to play will enjoy it. You can play it with a set time limit and with as few as two players, but you will need to agree on determining the winner. For a two player game, I would suggest not using the suggested method of play but choosing one country each and the other five powers are defensive only and don't move or support. I also gave "For traveling" a low rating because of the space and number of players needed. Bottom line, I have always wanted this game and am not disappointed in it. It is a great game. ... show more

  • Great game
As a high school student in Sydney, Australia we were studying World History. When we’re discussing Europe and the wars being waged between 1790 and 1970. We were asked to break into groups of 5. The teacher assigned each group a country. At the start of the game we were in the time prior to the Summer before WW1 (June 28, 1914) we needed to negotiate treaties. The teacher then started the game. As a student of History, I learned more about history from playing this game because it immersed me into what happens as the preparations for war are created and then applied. 30 years later my wife who is an AP World History teacher has used this game to teach her classes. ... show more

  • Great game - if you want everyone to hate you.
This game is notorious for breaking up friendships and is worth the agonizing amount of hours. At this price point it’s scratched the Diplomacy itch, though maybe not as great if condition of materials compared to previous iterations.
